ruby jet 184
have the same problem my self mate got a bull grey 21 wks old the key is to take it slow and not to push your pup to hard just little bits every now and again my pup has been out with me on a few quick lamping sesions over the last few wks just to watch the older dogs and to get used to the sounds and smells of the night but thats all shes done is watch. atb Quote Link to post

loopy2k9 0
you can put a dog out to early which sometimes leads to the dog getting frustrated if it doesnt keep up which sometimes leads to barking/yelping when on the chase . but im guessing you cant leave it too long but who knows i could be wrong Quote Link to post
ruby jet 184
i was told not too early as they bark. is this true some pups will open up its frustration (spelling) sometimes u can get an old head on young sholders so the brain is ready for work but the bodys not fully developed so there not anywhere near there quickest so cant get on term with there prey so bark or yap out of frustration atb Quote Link to post

adamb20 22
ive had my pup out since 3 months just mooching loose with older dog, she got her rabbit at about 4 month when the older dog pushed it out the bush towards her. she is about 8 and half month now and has had about four daytime rabbits, not done any lamping yet bar retreving dummy on the lamp. she ran a fully grown big rabbit last week when the older dog pushed it out the ruff into a big field. i was very suprised how quick she got on terms with it and stuck with it for about 30 seconds before it got thru a hedge. here she is 3/8 5/8 collie grey. oh she has never made a squeek when chasing either, i think a lot is to do with it been in the dog already. I think all dogs are diffrent to b honest.. i took my older dog out watching the lamp being worked from 6 months but never let him run untill he was 8 1/2 month and luckly he caught his first slip.. my youger bitch was a little slower did exactly the same thing with her but she didnt pick it up as quick few times out with her soon sorted that out though Quote Link to post

Ideation 8,216
If your running a dog at 3.5 months old at quarry then it's unlikely to make a healthy old age. It's still a small puppy, with developing muscles and bones, the damage you can do is huge. Quote Link to post
beddylurcher 70
i have been wundering about this myself, my beddy whippet is almost 22 weeks he has been owt watching other dogs, i wont be sliping him yet tho, mite take him ferreting when the season starts, he is marking holes every time we go for walks. My lurchers were fairly small, extemely strong but not whippety, every pup Ive bred and reared was entered by 6 months, and by a year old their target would be a hundred rabbits, some achieved this, some didnt..my pure bred deerhound (bitches) would have all tasted the lamp around 9-10 months, all were killing by a year old (on the lamp or ferreting) Quote Link to post
