cheers lads. just a little question if anyone would like to help? :hmm: what would it say on my cert if it wasn't open? It only states condition 5 & 6 is that i can use the rifles on land i have permission to shoot over with that class of firearm from the person by whom shooting rights areowned or from whom they may be leased or otherwise obtained? Does this mean i can shoot anywhere that i obtain permission and i deem suitible for the calibre? cheers stevie

A "closed" certificate will have a condition that says something along the lines of :-

The "calibre of rifle stated here, plus moderator and expanding amunition if conditioned for these" shall be used for "whatever you've asked for them to be conditioned for" on ranges and land deemed suitable by the chief officer of police for the area where the land is situated and over which the holder has lawful authority to shoot.

How'd you manage to get it open on first issue? Lucky sod!

Guess my error was trying to get a cert from TVP!

i'm not 100% sure if it is open as it say ~(The undernoted firearms and ammunition including expanding ammunition or missiles of such ammunitionto which this certificate relates shall be used for the purposes,including zeroing, namely:- 22in rimfire rifle-b/action, and the .22in sound moderator (RR) for shooting vermin on land over which the holder has permission to shoot with that class of firearm from the person by whom shooting rights are owned or from whom they may be leased or otherwise obtained.

6.The undernoted firearms and ammunition including expanding ammunition or missiles of such ammunitionto which this certificate relates shall be used for the purposes,including zeroing, namely:- .22-250 rifle-bolt action, and the .22-250in sound moderator (CR) for shooting roe deerand vermin on land over which the holder has permission to shoot with that class of firearm from the person by whom shooting rights are owned or from whom they may be leased or otherwise obtained.

I had asked for an open ticket on first application, when It came through, reading the first paragraph made it sound like a closed ticket, so I simply phoned my firearms officer, with a new piece of land, that wasent permission, but a pest control job culling rabbits, I had used the explaination that one off jobs were my need for an open ticket,so no need to wait for police checks, anyway, he informed me that if it was pest control, then indeed it was an open ticket and I could deem it safe

wording as below;

5, the .22rf rifle,sound moderator and ammunition shall be used for shooting vermin and ground game and for zeroing on ranges or land deemed suitable by the chief officer of police for the area where the land is situated and over which the holder has lawful authority to shoot

6, the .22rf rifle, sound moderator and ammunition may also be used in connection with the HUMANE KILLING OF ANIMALS whilst employed as a pest controller

7, the certificate holder may posses,purchase or aqquire expanding ammunition, or the missiles of such ammunition, in the calibres authorised by this certificate and use only in connection with

(a)the shooting of vermin or, in connection with the management of any estate, other wildlife

©the humane killing of animals

(d)the shooting of animals for the protection of other animals or humans

hope that helps

well a friend gave me a walther .22 with a parker hale mod. :notworthy: so i'm just going to get used to it and practice. i quite like the look of the cz with synthetic stock. but for the 22-250 i'm think of a tikka with heavyweight barrel and a t8 mod. why what do you suggest? as i'm still fairly new to rifles. i've had my shotgun for 5 years now.

You'll never go wrong with a CZ rimfire, as for the .22-250, Tikka's are good, especially pre T3's such as M590's or M595's I have a .22-250 M590 and it's a pleasure to use, very accurate, they're what I would call smiddy built, superior build quality than the T3's. And made before the Sako takeover.

I would think hard before getting a varmint barrel, thier ok for a high seat or bench, but if you are going to lug it about whilst roe stalking in heather or woodland, it will be hard work.
