the patman 4
just looking for some advice got a webley vulcan last night very cheap and a few field target trophy pellets, had a few shots to check zero which was very accurate and then came across a decent sized bunny waiting for a lead injection one good head shot sent him to the grave paced it out to 25 yds. question 1 what benefit would i get if i changed the spring to a gas ram.question 2 should i stick with the field target pellets or try a few different brands thanks john. will put a picture of gun up later Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
Hi, mate. I've a Tracker and an Xocet both with rams fitted (both for sale!!) and it improved them both no end. Much smoother to shoot, no more twangs and rattles makeing it quieter too and no more worries about weakening the spring by leaving it cocked for too long. There's no down side IMHO. Cheers. Phantom 631
Some people liken the recoil on a rammer to that of a shotty as its so quick. I must say that I have only fired one rammer and it was a dream to shoot; lovely. Like andy says, no need to worry about leaving it cocked. But I personally think that the main benefit of the rammer is the shorter lock time (the time the pellet spends in the barrel after it leaves the breech). This in itself can lead to better accuracy as the pellet is on route to the target before the recoil has chance to knock the front of the barrel off target. (if yah get my drift?). donnyc 1,203
wouldnt think Theobum would have any in stock though ..LOL. Quote Link to post
zini 1,939
If your hitting your target accurately mate every time i cant see why you want to mess with the combo buddy. Most of the rifles now days will out shoot the shooter i believe buddy. If it isnt broken i wouldnt mend it. Si Quote Link to post

The rams really do improve those old springers, Si. Cheers. Quote Link to post
Edgar 1
Don't understand phantom, vulcans are around the 10-11ft/lbs mark anyway so if the pellet spends less time in the barrel it must be going faster and so the rifle would be more powerfull? I would leave it, if it's not broke don't fix it. Should be good for bunnies to 30 yards. Quote Link to post

I see what you mean, Edgar but lock time refers to the time between the trigger releasing all the mechanical gubbins and the projectile leaving the end of the barrel, not just time the pellet's in the barrel. andyfr1968 772
OK, I'm not getting this.... I agree that messing for it's own sake isn't really a good idea but.... The Vulcan's a good solid basic old school springer and more than good enough to do the buisiness in capable hands but are you saying that it can't be improved? If a machine (any machine..) can be easily and cheaply made to function better then why not? Si uses Sandwell to improve his sringers so what's the difference? Just my opinion.... Cheers. jasper65 6
Had a old Vulcan MKII hanging around the cuboards and loft for a good few years but finally decided to tidy it up a little with a new breach washer and spring after I moved, Its a cracking springer well upto the 12ft/lbs limit but unfortunatly has a pretty solid single stage trigger! then again I suppose 90% of them did back then.... the gun after a pretty minor refurb accounted for a few pigeons and squirrels in the area before I made my life a little easier with a pre-charge.... Edgar 1
If you want to spend money on it buy the trigger upgrade from chambers. Quote Link to post
