neil cooney 10,416
If I used maize (yellow corn) instead of peanuts would it stop the mice cleaning up my bait before the squirrels find them in my cage traps? Quote Link to post

ratattack 111
try part of a bounty or snickers bar instead, they can't move that easily Quote Link to post
FERAL 0
Hello Neil I hope I can help you here, I trap the squirrel by threading 2 or 3 Hazel nuts onto a wire, and hang in back of the trap. In front of trap and just on doorstep put some nut shells these get mr squirrels attention and mouse dont care for them. But for me, I need big numbers of them so I dont trap until my nut marker is eaten, I put the marker nuts onto trees through my woodland. When one is eaten I trap at base of this tree, in tunnel that is ready, he will be back soon. Quote Link to post
neil cooney 10,416
Thanks for the replys folks, It's actually a large hazel copse I'm trapping so IMO hazel nuts wouldn't entice them into a trap although anything is better than feeding mice. This morning 2 traps had rats in them while another had a cock blackbird. To rub it in I seen 4 squirrels running on the lane. Quote Link to post
theobenmike 0
Place your traps off the ground - either up trees or on top of wooden fences etc. This can be a bit fiddely securing them but it does stop the mice Quote Link to post
