what would you rather have,a fen dog or a dog that took hares on the ground you hunt

IN YOUR OPINION WHATS A FEN DOG..??...IF YOU HAVE A LAMPING DOG THAT COULD KILL HARES(PREBAN) REGULAR ON THE FENS DOES THAT MAKE IT A FEN DOG OR A LAMPING DOG..??..AND BEFORE ANYONE SAYS "A JACKER MAKES A FEN DOG".....................JUST AFTER A BIT OF CLARITY TO YOUR QUESTION,THANKS.

 

In my opinon a fen dog is a dog that can never live up to its name........ it gets better the longer it is dead....... It needs at least 5 square miles of an uninterupted view of the land its going to run...... The hare its going to chase needs to be at least 7 miles from any given obstacle that might aid its escape....... The dog needs 600 yards to get on terms with said quarry....... Does nothing more than blocking tactics from said 7 mile away clump of grass.......... Even if it jacks, it has a list of excuses for future pup sales at the ready...... even if it gets beat it technically didn't if no money was exchanged....... And most of all...... no matter what..... its always going to be better than yours!!! :clapping: :dance: :clapping: :dance:

Wouldn't happen though mate....If a dog can catch hares consistantly on the fens pre ban and I'm talking winter hares given law not kick ups or summer leverets then I would suggest that it could go to most places in the uk and hold his own on the same daytime quarry. I use my "fendogs" lamping rabbits at night and although I dont claim that they are the best rabbiters in the world they do very well. However It does take time for them to adjust to striking early if they are used to to long daytime racing.

when all said and done if a dog pleases the man or woman that feeds it and works it then to them its a good dog regardles of the knockers trying to judge it and surely thats the main thing ?

Fair point mate but there is a difference between a so called fen dog as you quite rightly put it and a good fen dog and this is also fact.After all if a dog is capable of catching the best hares in the country and has the access to do so why would it want to travel all that way to race yours.

What are the qualities of a "fen dog"?

1. standoffish piece of crap that wont return to the motor, leaving you with an hours chase just to catch the fecker
