Just had the dew claws removed on my 2yr old... Plus a full check up by the well respected greyhound vet paul Evans..

In the check up, he found old injuries, which he knew nothing about...And also found his glands to be swollen in his neck. Said it concerned him a little as this could be due to infection or illness, or something more sinister..So he took a blood test, and i'll get results on monday...

I could just tell that he wasnt running the same and he wasnt himself... Also the dew claw kept flaring up and at one time it couldnt be touched without the dog winching in pain, so hopefully the glands will have been flared up due to this reason, as they could have been infected, anyway job done, so i feel much happier now..

Did he say how long he'll be layed up for? When i got the end of my dogs tail off I was gonna get his claws off at the same time but the vet reckoned he'd be off for 6 weeks with it, they aren't too bad but he's smashed them a few times in the past so its one i'd consider in future.

Got a quote from 2 other normal vets!! one said £250, the other said £220, paul did it for £140!! The price didnt matter as it is being done on the insurance...

Mine worked out at the same price, or near as damn it. That included the consultation the day before he went in too.

I guess I'll stop bitching about the 50 quid each that we were quoted to have two of ours done!

I was told they would be about 3 weeks off, tops, which is why we set the appointment to correspond with 3 weeks before we plan on starting roading for the season ... Maltenby, was it a running dog you had done? And how long was it off?

22" Beddy/whippet, (lamping/mooching dog) and he was out of action for about 4 weeks. The problem was that he was in the middle off his first season proper, and had just started upping his game. He had been yapping out of frustration, so he had a spell off. Had the first night back on it after a break & caught his biggest tally of four with no yapping after the first one. Not a big number of rabbits, but a decent bag off heavily frequented land with lamp shy rabbits. The next night out he had his injury, back to square one.. :(
