Hello all, hope that you are well, right, our Chad (5 Month Hancock) was playing in some top soil I'd had delivered, 11 ton so there was a fair old heap, anyway, he stood on the top and jumped off, not high, but when he landed, he cried, upon inspection the middle / left toe / nail on his back left foot is facing slightly inwards and the pad underneath is swollen, Ive felt the toe which I add Chad didnt appreciate and that too is swollen, he cant put any weight on it, but when at rest it doesnt seem to bother him and is sleeping and eating fine, Im obviously concerned that his toe's broken, but I really cant understand how he did it, apart from the obvious jumping off the soil heap, please dont be funny with me Im a genuine fella asking for advice, which I asure you is really appreciated,

Sounds like it might be broke mate but only x ray will tell you for sure. Mike.

oh ruddy hell, what will the vets do if it's found to be broken mate any idea? would you advise a trip to the vets or will it ment ok on it's own ? you hear so much conflicting advice, I dont know if im sitting or standing

Don't know what to say for the best mate, you really need a greyhound vet ,trouble with most vets is they do what's best for their wallet , not what's best for the dog . Mike.

it sounds broke, i think the vet will re set it if its broke.let it heal if it still plays up have it off

sound like a break could be a dislocation only one way to find out. my vet showed me how to pop em back in when its dislocated but i wouldnt do it to a pup. hope its nothing too bad. atb mrs A.R.D

Hi all, thanks to all who have pm'd me and shown interest through the thread, you are tue ladies and gentlemen, right enough with the plesentaries, update, si He's been on rimfin half twice daily, Ive also been dipping into ice cooled water, well this morning I cant believe it, dont get me wrong it's not sorted and he's still very cautious with it but he's putting weight on it and doing the daft things puppies do, skidding round the kitchen on the tiles and generally into everything, like I said, I know it's not 100% but it's a massive improvement on yesterday, so please dont have ago at me but, Im going to keep icing it, keep him on Rimfin and re-assess the situation on Monday, I would never ever cause my dogs unneccesary pain, Ive spoken to my father in law and he said when Chad jumped, he trud on a pebble, so maybe soft tissue ???

well if the pup is comfortable! didnt you say the toe looked missplaced? or was it from the swelling? just be careful mate if he shows any sign of getting worse i wouldnt wait till monday. if it is a break or dislocation and its left too long it will perminantly effect the dogs toe. just keep him as steady as you can. atb mrs A.R.D

hi mate , our terrier pup jumped out my missis arms last weekend , she too wouldn put any weight on was lively enough , couldnt feel anyhting out of place !! this happend on a sat night we waited till monday morning £140 later , x-ray , pain killer etc (loxicom ) we found out it was soft tissue , but was glad i took her vets peace of mind an all that , she back to her self now !!!

Muzzel your dog and cut the nail to the quick. If you don't muzzel him he'll eat you.

This will releave the toe of pressure and will drain it. No exercise for a while and keep it clean.
