Jamie m 668
Not really mate I've bred small thin ferrets that couldn't of been more distantly related Quote Link to post
Nobby 65
Small strains of ferrets are nothing new as ferreters have been breeding these smaller ferret types for years. when got my first ferrets 40 years ago you could get them.As with all ferret size’s you should be breeding best worker to best worker to maintain or improve your ferrets working ability. That said every time you bred from your ferrets you are playing with genetic’s man has been doing this as long as he has had domestic animals. There will be some people who look at the smaller type as they did with silvers as a money thing or fad they have got to have one. That’s the way things go .There are people knocking small ferrets for one reason or another but not me like all ferrets you get good small working ferrets just like you get good normal size working ferrets. rob190364 2,594
A ferret is a ferret in my eyes, its not about the size of it just how good it works, no people shouldn't mess around with genetics or any "selective breeding" that nature doesn't do. Just my oppinion, Joe Nature don't do ferrets mate, they're already man made ! Nature does polecats so according to that theory you should be working polecats. And without folk "messing around with genetics " there'd be no domestic animals whatsoever. May be you best rethink your opinion. Wild black footed ferrets are fictional then are they?? Might be called a ferret mate but it's got very little to do with our ferrets , it's closest relative is the Siberian polecat. and Quote Link to post
