SNAP SHOT 194
As all the above have stated, nothing wrong with a .222, especially if your thinking of reloading in the future, However, the .223 has more rifle manufacture's making this calibre, rounds are more widely availabe, a little more power, ultimately its you choosing the gun and calibre you wish, people screamed at me for getting the .243 semi customed into a yes .243 !!!!!! But for me it does what i want it to do.... simple as, i know what the bullets are doing, i've shot it for years and i'm comfortable with it... So glad you went with your heart.... people are still shooting black powder guns....!!!! Why because they get a buzz from it.... Each to there own... And good luck with it.. Snap. Quote Link to post
Dan Newcombe 58
I use a .22-250 Tikka but my mate has a .222 CZ and that comes out lamping more than the Tikka. Quieter, easier to shoot recoil wise and cheaper to run (plus it has a Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20 which is very smart to use) If i hadnt been given my Tikka i was going for a .223 Seems you have made a good choice Dan Quote Link to post
danebrewer10 6
the way I see it is that the .223 is a hot .222, I think it was based on the .222 mag? so it's faster, has more oomph, the .222 rifles will probably be cheaper because no one wants them, but I bet sourcing .223 ammo will be considerabvly easier, and you'll have a much better selection of various ammo, plus the .223 is small deer legal with appropriate bullets and energies, I don't know about the .222 but it may just scrape in 1000ft/lbs, someone who loads for it 'll have to tell you that DB and actually (yes I did look it up) the .222 and .223 both have the same bullet diameter of .224", it's like the .270 win having a diameter of .277", the .44 magnum actually being a .43 calibre and not .44 and the .303 british actually having a bullet dia of .311"....... jamie g 17
depends what you want ? if you want a cheap rifle 222 can be had for a couple of 100 pound the 222 imo has a good class of rifles for sale. ie'''' older model m590 and m595 then there are the older sako's these actions are better then the rifles of today. and when there cheap they are bargains. if you reload then its no trouble. mind saying that ive seen a good number of shops with a good choice of 222 ammo Quote Link to post

Ian. I've got the same setup and you'll be well chuffed with the results Edited August 23, 2010 by Sledgehammer Quote Link to post
