Safe bedding for a pregnant Jill

Hi,

 

My polecat Jill is due to give birth next week. I used to always use Barley straw for bedding, this seemed to go down quite well until a few months ago when she started to pull it all out of the nest. I then put in an old bed sheet, she seemed to like this, I was worried that this wouldnt be ideal for her when giving birth so I got wood shavings and put them into the nest, however she has pulled most of them out.

 

The question I need answered is how safe is a bed sheet for use as bedding for a jill that is about to give birth?

Ive found out hay or straw can harbour bugs in the hollow stems unless its really clean ,and kits can get tangled in shredded paper

Our ferrets have a cat bed from argos in that way its machine washable.

I just use a 3-4 inch layer of shavings.
