mally 832
listen lads, yes thats my opinion, just got back in there had my hounds behind the pickup getting them ready uyou no how it is, any way back to topic i think u can see early if a dog has what it takes or not what you can tell from its first ever slip I think what the bloke means is a dog should be more than capable of catching on it's very first slip if prepared and entered at the right time. I recently took Mojito the pup i got off you out for her first nights lamping, a friend was visiting from kuwait to see the pups and i decided to take him out lamping for an hour. I knew she was ready for a run or two. She caught on her first run and retrieved it live to hand, and i mean retrieved over 70 yards. when i got back i skinned the rabbit to see if there was any damage and there was hardly a mark on it... Guest Buttermilk
Have patience ,enjoy having her and see that she enjoys being with you ,all the while reenforcing the recall, play with her the retrieving game once or twice a day,be with her and introduce her to as many different situations as possible, sometime this winter you,ll have a dog ready to start, patience,is the main thing. all the very best with her. BTW ignore talk about having to catch the first rabbit.PATIENCE My sentiments exactly. What wise words. My Lurcher bitch didn't catch her first rabbit, infact she missed quite a few to start with...now she is a phenomenal rabbiter. 100%. Keep her close and bond with her. She's only a baby. Good luck! And enjoy..... Quote Link to post
