listen lads, yes thats my opinion, just got back in there had my hounds behind the pickup getting them ready uyou no how it is, any way back to topic i think u can see early if a dog has what it takes or not

my pup missed about 9-10 first night i took him out never caught one all night , i was gutted , hes had alot of stuff now and hes only 14 month , cannot fault him apart from his retrieve ...so thats your theory down the shitter :bye:

just get the dog to bond with you first if its timid just let it play a bit then start the basic training but as already said the first thing is recall, getting the dog back to you is what matters and dont worry about missing bits they are there for next time all part of the learning process patience is the key with a young dog and time.

start taking your pup with you as much as possible when u leave the house, walks along the high st, etc, start mingling with people and other dogsthis will help with timidness.

i have collie bred lurcher and started doing this as soon as she had her jags.she is now rock steady.

Have patience ,enjoy having her and see that she enjoys being with you ,all the while reenforcing the recall, play with her the retrieving game once or twice a day,be with her and introduce her to as many different situations as possible, sometime this winter you,ll have a dog ready to start, patience,is the main thing. all the very best with her. BTW ignore talk about having to catch the first rabbit.PATIENCE
