AzMaN 0
I brought a load of gear off a chap that is selling up, and in the box of bits was about 20 made up rounds. I borowed a mates puller and seperated them out (obviously i dont want to put someone elses homeloads down my rifle) but now i have a small pot full of powder that i want rid of. whats the best way?? i thought about diging a hole and burying it. murphymax 9
put it in an empty bean can, take outdoors and drop a match into it, it will only flare up, not explode. Edited July 27, 2010 by murphymax Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
The safest way is to take it to your nearest RFD for disposal. You could ignite it, but if you decide to do that, use a long stick, a good four or five feet MINIMUM with a piece of meths soaked cotton wool to light it, and make sure you're upwind of it. Burial is also an option, as long as it's somewhere you can guarantee it'll not be disturbed for a couple of years. Nitro powder is pretty much all organic, so it should rot down fairly quickly in moist conditions. Quote Link to post
clint 45
put on floor, strike mach , at arm length thro on powder . Quote Link to post

Just chuck it up the garden, goodness sake it's not black powder or nuclear waste, health & safety gone mad again? AF Quote Link to post

HUnter_zero 58
I burn off all the odd bits of powder I'm left with. I Just put it in a square of tissue paper, wrap it up like a little bag and light the top. It's the safest way to dispose of any unused powder, inc. BP. John Quote Link to post
danebrewer10 6
as others have said, just spread it out on the ground and burn it, modern powders tend to burn pretty slowly by comparison with old BP. Quote Link to post
