First Air Gun

Recommended Posts

For targets or hunting? And whats your budget? :)

targets at first or if i can find an experienced person, i could go on a hunt and get experienced training, and i not bothered about the price as long as it doesnt exeed a really high amount, as i will need to save up for one, preferablly i would like a silenced one so that i dont freighten all the game away, and could get a scope later on as attachement if iron sight isn'f for me

Hi mate. Firstly, if you're considering doing any kind of hunting, then you'll need a rifle.

I'd suggested a self contained rifle for a start, and would recommend a break-barrel action.

Almost all rifles are designed to be used with a scope these days, although open sights are fitted as standard to some rifles too - I'd recommend using a scope.

I'd budget between £150 and £250, and look at a BSA Lightning or Weihrauch HW99S and HW95K if I were you. You'll be able to pick up a good quality scope from JS Ramsbottom for about £30, and you'll have yourself a decent set up.

Dont forget to tell the folk at the gunshop that you want a full powered gun, then once your up to speed with your target shooting you can use the same gun to whack a few rabbits, and before you buy your chosen gun, just get the heads up from the lads on here, that way you should be able to avoid the same pitfalls we encountered, good luck

Weihrauch HW35K. This was my first ever air rifle and i loved it. Being German it's absolutely solid and if you take care of it, it'll out live you. They're also a bit cheaper than the other Weihrauch's out there, but by no mean inferior. I've been looking for one recently actually.

hi, welcome to the world of airgunning, you will enjoy it believe me. a rifle is a must, you can then use it for both target and hunt shooting. however, before you even think about shooting any quarry you need to be able to put a pellet within a 5p piece at 30 yards.humane hunting is what it is about,if you can confidently put that sort of pellet in, then you can quarry hunt.i would advise a springer, mainly because it is hard to learn to shoot straight with, you will learn all sorts of faults about your shooting style. you can then work on them ie; how to hold the gun, how to breathe on the shot, one eye open or both etc, so that , when you can shoot proficiently with a springer you will then feel one hell of an achievement. pcps are then the next step and believe me, they are the easiest rifles to shoot. fitted with a bipod, you will not miss.

bsa lightning is a fantastic beginners rifle at a good price- look on the forums first before going to a gun shop- make sure the seller on the forum has feedback though.
