CarraghsGem 92
right, i bought 2 lurcher pups approx 9-10wks old 1 week ago, ive wormed them, and they have a constant supply of royan canin, supplemented with raw rabbit pieces in the morning, ive never had any bother getting weight onto any of my own pups but these are too skinny for their age, the dog pup more so than the bitch pup, they are predominantly whippet with about 25% deerhound in the mix, it doesnt seem to be affecting them in any way but it concerns me a little that i can see their ribs. any way i can bulk them up a little? Flamin'Nora! 50
instead of giving peices, give the full rabbit with the skin on and guts taken out and just let them tear into it like piranas, ive yet to see pups that wont devour a raw rabbit or hare given half a chance, also some bits of tripe and any other good quality meat in small quantities, if the pups have not been well fed you need to build them up gradually. good luck

Flamin'Nora! 50
try your local slaughterhouse/abbatoir for fresh green tripe or even local butchers for the processed stuff try large scale pet supplier a lot of the ones with big chest freezers will do minced tripe or tripe chunks
romany52 313
Rabbit's not much good for putting weight on, too low in fat.Green beef tripe will do the trick, if you can't get it, just lumps of fat from the butchers along with the rabbit, will work wonders. runforyourlife 361
rABBITS are no good at all for putting weight on in animal life or humans... If a human ate rabbit and babbit alone, that said person would die of starvation, due to lack of supplements!!! There are a host of things you can feed these pups, anything will do that makes things put weight on, as long as they are getting 3 meals aday with the right ingrediences, they will be fine pal. neil cooney 10,416
I wouldn't over do the rabbit with lurcher pups (or terriers) as they'll associate them with food, especially with the skin on ?????? Once pups are off the bitch don't give milk. Tripe.....YES. If your feeding 4 times a day and your giving a quality food and they're wormed and they're healthy in their coat, eyes, gums etc. etc. and they're active and playing with each other then there's a good chance you have healthy pups who just happen to be skinny. Guest chook
Why give Wheatabix to a pup - it dosent need it, its a pup not a human. Simple keep them on a good diet about 4 times a day, either a proper raw diet, dry or wet food, pick one - dont mix the raw and dry together, they digest at different rates, it dosent matter if you can count ribs, solong as they look healthy, and are active like pups should be they will come right in time - you have to remember pups grow in two stages, quite often when they are in the up stage, they can look skinny, one of my bitch's looked skinny till she was around 6 she would never put weight on, i just had to except it.
