CorkyJohn 808
U should be ashamed corky John, I'm a lamping man and I would never run a hare at night, now pull your trackies out of your socks and put the cider down and talk sense Sadly I don't fit that stereotype mate so you couldn't be more wrong. Bearing in mind you're from the cider drinking end of the country, you probably have the mentality/views I was talking about due to the flinty ground being too hard for your dogs eh? Soft dogs? CorkyJohn 808
How do your beddie x's fare then? I'd prefer deerhound x's but they are slow, not agile enough & don't have the early pace for Roe Quote Link to post

lucky 578
i've done plenty of walking in the past and i enjoyed it just the same but what i've found is that you can go on forever kidding yourself with a mediocre dog thinking you have something special simply because your not getting it on enough game to really test it..... driving fields gets you on the numbers and you soon find out what your dog is or is'nt capable of, most can't take the pace and soon turn out to be failures..... also in this present climate its much easier to be on and off the land and onto another area in a matter of minutes when lamping from a motor...... times have changed and so has the law so just remember if you were robbing a bank would you expect to walk home with the money ??????? I do both walk and drive, the above statment is most likly true of other game, but not rabbits, the biggest bags of rabbit will always be made on foot, not to say you cant catch good bags of bunnys cos you can, but the real big bags are done on foot 1 Quote Link to post

Molie1337 35
Theres no way i could cover all my ground in a night without a 4x4, if i walked it, everything would be scared off before you got close enough for a slip. But with a 4x4 the game isnt as spooked, or if it is its easy to catch up with or cut it off from getting to the hedge etc. Its not about purism, or laziness, its about dogs on game! atb Molie just too add to that, i dont lamp from the 4x4 all year round! walking and driving have their time and place! and lucky has hit the nail on the head! i would like to see some of you "religious walkers" dogs do the numbers on a good night. atb Molie 1 Quote Link to post
