CarraghsGem 92
how they do it round my parts;-use vehicle and lamp to locate rabbits , drive 50yards or so on, park vehicle, quietly walk back with dog/s with lamp switched off when back at location, turn lamp on, let slip the dog. if useing a "rifle" (not a dog) you could also use fox-call when in persuit of fox, a young fox or one that has never been lamped before often comes fairly close before realiseing its error. stabba 10,745
piece of piss mate...just pull up along side of a rabbit...stick the lamp on it...the dog will eventually see it then hey presto..shoot straight out the window...doesnt take them long to click...atb stabba 1 Quote Link to post
woodbine 11
Hi,this is a dangerous way to lamp rabbits. They often run towards the lamp. The rabbit will be ok going under but your dog, blinded by the lamp will run into the vehicle.I was warned about this years ago.Lamping with a gun from a vehicle ,yes but better walking with your dog. southcott 9
my Husband broke his back many years ago, so we very often go out at dusk with the car, my young whippet x has learnt to watch out of the window, and then chase from the car , in a ideal world it would be great for hubbie to walk the feilds, but such is life, you have to make the best of it. valley boy 28
have`nt got a clue mate the reason why i drive my farms is because there`s alot of oachards and hop fields on them and you cant run a dog on them so the only way to get the rabbits is to shoot them and its better from a vehicle than on foot Quote Link to post
TOMO 26,407
AS stabba said redneck, personly though if its rabbits your after and theres reasnable numbers your better with the dog running along side the motor. again with practice the dog learns when to go from a trot to a gallop. i also youse the voise command of "get on" wich gets them going down the beam even if they cant yet see it. also if ya can drive round the edges of the fields next to the hedges in a clockwise direction also handy having a rearspotlight on the motor as rabbits often run round the back of the truck out of the beam your holding. 1 Quote Link to post
hound dog 19
For rabbits its much more rewarding to walk IMO Quote Link to post

Ideation 8,216
Stand up out of the sunroof - solves the problem of them shifting round the back of the motor. Quote Link to post
TOMO 26,407
what like this of course this only works if you have a sunroof, and someone with you who's actualy slim enough to fit through it running nect to the truck. Quote Link to post
