Lets face it, its alot better than them feckin lamp shades . collie/grey 238
Mine wear a muzzle to stop chewing/biting of stitches, the plastic ones used for greyhound racing, they can drink perfectly fine through them, well mine do! Good luck with her anyway. Quote Link to post
CarraghsGem 92
one of my old dogs managed to destroy not 1 but 2 of those collars, had to put a muzzle on her in the end, she'd pull out stitches as fast as they were put in. Quote Link to post
Guest chook
Not as cheap as the lamp shade, but a lot easer for the dog and you shins. Hope she makes a quick recovery. http://www.amazinghealth.co.uk/comfy-collar.htm Quote Link to post

I went to Scatts and bought nonstick dressings, held it in place with vetwrap. Had to put the bandage across the chest then right round his body but it kept him from licking it and it healed well. skycat 6,173
It won't hurt if she just licks the wound: it is a normal and natural thing to do. Just so long as she doesn't pull at the stitches with her teeth. I've never known one of my dogs chew at stitches. Leave the collar off her whilst your'e there and just watch to see what she does. If she just licks for a while then leaves it that is fine. Licking the wound site will also calm her down: it releases endorphins which calm and make an animal feel better in itself. Dog saliva also contains an enzyme which breaks down the cell walls of bacteria so it really does help if they lick their wounds. Quote Link to post
lurchergrrl 1,441
There's nowt much worse than the looks they give you when you put one of those buster collars on them Mine had the double wammy of having to wear an uber-gay pink camo fleece over her wound because it was weeping so much - right through the dressings. But she'd ripped her chest open on a barbed fence and then the vet buggered up the repair and made it worse. It was a disgusting wound. Skycat is right about the licking. Once mine had passed a very delicate stage, I removed everything and let her do her own healing. It went well. You've just got to keep a watch as some dogs get obsessed with it. Best of luck for a speedy recovery. Quote Link to post
