Not my thing mate but if your working him with other dogs could he be being dominated by any older dogs there ? Could there just be no scent in this heat and no scent in the dry conditions ? and could you be feeding it to much "lazy fat git" or has it just been disheartened by all those rabbits running away without a chance of catch.

Theres scent in any type of cover if the animal has just pasted through there, and certainly if it has entered a hole... What you say about the food could be quite true.

Have you changed his food in any way? More to the point, have you entered him to ground yet or lately? Some dogs go off the boil when they are under the weather. Or if you have been working them in harsh and hard conditions, maybe he just needs a rest mate. Lie him up for a wweek or so..

Maybe he's just at the age where he's starting to question your authority. :hmm: I've found that a training a terrier is constant when working it above ground. You're never at the point where the training is 100% ingrained in the dog and never has to be done again. Keep at it, and as RFYL said, maybe give it a bit of time off so it can realise what it's missing. Maybe take it along with other dogs but keep it on the lead so it can watch the other dogs work, but don't let it participate for a few sessions.
