matt_hooks 188
I've not heard of a change of legislation that would mean that, have they quoted the specific legislation behind the new requirement? Quote Link to post
dave1372 83
.....shit luck if you ask me ! Quote Link to post
younggun 0
I dont understand why they would grant an SGC and then add those conditions. What age are you anyway son Quote Link to post
ROB.BOB 21
17 i can still have a gun, but it has to be gifted to me as of the 28th of july, and as no one else in my family shoots, this could get tricky. so im going around all my local gun shops within the next 3 days (including today) i could find the act for you, i'll find it tonight Quote Link to post
Terryorr 27
Seems strange to me .As far as I am aware here in Northern Ireland you can have Firearms Certificate at 16(for a shotgun or air rifle) but must be accompanied by someone over 21 and who has held an F A C for 3 years. I dont think there is any clause about being or not being able to buy your own gun. Sorry to hear your of your trouble. Quote Link to post
welshdragon 6
Hi ROB.BOB my boy have had a letter sayin the same. The above regulation will come in to effect on the 28th of july 2010 will make it an offence .For a person under the age of 18 to purchase or hire any firearms or ammunition as to do so will be an offence. atb W.D Quote Link to post
hw100sniper 2
Same thing happened to 1 of the guys I go stalking with he just got his FAC then got this letter in ,he's allowed to keep the rifle he has as he already had it but is not allowed to buy any ammo on his ticket for it. He read the paragraph out to me and although I cant remember it all the bit that stuck in my head was 'to bring us in line with the E.U.' Quote Link to post
an fear fiach 0
Thats Fare bad, I'm 16 and was able to purchase my own cz452 .17hmr silencer and lot at the local gun shop, put a request in for a licence after 3 1/2 months I got word that Im been granted it so I've to wait maby 2 more weeks and My shiney new .17hmr will be at home in my safe The law in Ireland is if you are 16 you can apply for a firearms licence which includes Shotgun, rifle or air rifle Then when you fill in all the details The cert is sent to Dublin and then back to your local Garda Supt. He/she is the 1 who either grants you the licence or dosent, Simple as , I wish Its painfully slow waiting for a gun licence over here, Lads will apply for the licence before the shooting season and by the time they get the gun the season will be over, Every gun owned in Ireland has to have an individual licence And its cost € to licence a gun for 3 years no matter if its a .308 centerfire or a .177 air rifle, All air rifles have to be licenced too no matter what fbs it shoots at. Not that any of that helped you but it might help somebody, Sorry again coz finding a nice gun that suits your needs in 3 days is not easy, Good luck with it Atb Stephen Quote Link to post

matt_hooks 188
I'd still like to know which piece of legislation they're using to justify it. The current legislation means that at 17 you can buy a shotgun and ammunition. Unless there's been a change I can't see how anything else is enforcable! Quote Link to post
hw100sniper 2
Matt when my man phoned BASC they informed him that they had published the legislation a few months before so not sure if it can be found on there site.Ill have a wee look see to see if I can find it. Quote Link to post
halamrose 24
Here it is at BASC http://www.basc.org.uk/en/departments/firearms/eu-changes-to-uk-firearms-legislation-2010.cfm Quote Link to post
