Calling before dark

Recommended Posts

Well Folks, my dad got talking to a local farmer today and the farmer said there was a fox or 2 knocking about his glen and could we do anything, leave it with me said my dad. If my dad has to call foxes in he dosn,t use a lamp because he believes that there are so many tits about all the foxes are lamp shy, so he prefers to go out about an hour before dark or just after dark in the morning.

About 8.30pm tonight we got kitted up and drove the odd mile to our permission. As we turned of the road onto the lane we noticed a fox about 100 yrds away so we kept on driving past it to a derelict farm house and parked up. We got out and my dad said not to speak. We sneaked back along the lane to a gap in the hedge and foxy was still there unconcernede. My dad lifted the bereeta 303 up into position and just made a faint call with only his mouth and foxy boy came in like a greyhound to about 20 yds and a BB dropped him, a big 3/4 grown dog cub.

We then walked further up the glen to where we work the terreirs and sat down about 60 yds away from the cover, this time I called with one of my dads callers for about 2 minutes and a good fox (probobly THE vixen) walked over the top of the bury and sat down watching from where the sound was coming from, she was having none of it and disappeard either to ground or into the glen. We were back home for about 9.20pm Cheers
