The death of a legend r.i.p A.H.He was at the crucible in sheffield only this year potting a few balls.

used too stay up when i was a kid just too watch him.he was a rebel but a lovable rogue who brought the game of snooker alive.remember when he won the final in 1982 i think and got his little girl out of the crowd for a hug.REST IN PEACE FELLA.

in the final 1982 against Steve Davis after the first session Alex Higgins was 10-0 down and the bookies had him at 100-1 to win which famously he did

Jeez I cant believe I got that so wrong :notworthy: at the time I was working for a firm in Leeds, Smith+Nelson's snooker and billiard table manufacturers who incidently had turned Alex Higgins down in the early 70's when he first came over from Ireland. The work not only maintained WMC tables they used to set tables up for exhibition matches and which ever tournament my comment above relates to resulted in a series of 10 matches all over the country one of which was staged at York University, it was mid winter the table was set up and rumours circulated of a no show because of the weather but Alex turned up in a porsche he was helped out of the car a bottle of whiskey in each jacket pocket (both empty)he made it to the table no practise,no warm up he placed the cue ball on the brown spot and struck it,incredibly the ball went up and down the table 7times :icon_eek: (normally you'd expect 4 to be maximum) he turned and said "that will do" R.I.P Alex Higgins
