Shaunm41 14
Hi guys, Looking for a few setup tips for dead baiting. I have only ever fished with the spinner. Im going to our local course lake where i know there is loads of pike. If I can get the same spot as last week I will be set up float fishing the bottom about 10' deep. Caught loads of pearch last time on maggots. But where im hoping to sit is the last peg before the lake corner and its all full of reeds and is around 8 - 10' deep right in the corner so Im thinking of setting up a dead bait rig and leaving it there all day while im filling my keepnet up with roach and pearch. Whats the best way to rig it up? I have wire traces, a decent rod and reel, a pike bob, and I have bought a trout from asda cut in 3 and thrown in the freezer to use as bait. Quote Link to post
niall_b73 41
i would have to say that you idea of leaving the deadbait out all day while you fish away else where stinks !! if you are going to use a dead bait setup you should be sitting right beside it and keeping an eye on it at all times. what if the pike takes the dead bait and you are elsewhere !! the pike is going to swallow the trout hooks and all. :wallbash: leave the rod beside you and keep an eye on it, when it needs attention give it some. this site might give you some help: http://www.pacgb.co.uk/ niall_b73 Quote Link to post

I ment I will cast into the corner from where my peg is. I will have the deadbait rod sitting along side the rod im fishing for the smaller fish with. Quote Link to post
Squirrel_Basher 17,100
Personally i wouldnt fish a dead bait on a float for the reason mentioned .The float needs weighting down and there is too much room between the weight and trebles for a swallow .Personally ,and this is just what works for me ,i free line a dead bait on a bite alarm that works both ways ,backwards and forwards as not all do and with drop back indicators .Tighten to the bait and set up the alarm .Nothings moving without you knowing about it . ratattack 111
Personally in summer i would be using one of those perch or roach live on the pike rod, dead baiting in summer means watching the pike rod constantly and being ready to react to the slightest of twitches on the line. Not possible if you are busy with the smaller fish. One or the other for me in summer, or spinning for pike with lures or a dead bait. Quote Link to post
mudd dog 128
i'd be throwing them live roach and perch on never mind. speed things up then you're giving yourself a better chance of catching mr. pikie. p.s. i find sometimes when im fishing places and theres alot off shoals of bait fish around dead bait is'nt very effective for obvious reasons.. just my opinion. frankie 2010 1
One more thing when your out DEADBAITING is every say 40mins or so gently pull your rod so it slightly moves the bait because sometimes the PIKE will just be sitting thier looking at it & a slight bit of movement can make the PIKE STRIKE ive found it works with some LIVE BAITS IN STILL WATERS ASWELL try the sunken patanoster !!!! will tempt any old esox !!! ps livebait all the way for me !!!!! http://www.pacgb.co.uk/tips/pat.html Edited July 24, 2010 by frankie 2010 Quote Link to post
