Magpies or pikeys??

Recommended Posts

Hi fellas,

Been a while I guess... Back from Afghan in one piece though :gunsmilie:

Anyway, down to business.

I have been rudely awakened (rather early may I add) from my slumber several times this week....

Magpies seem to be the problem, caught them this morning doing what I can only describe as trying to strip the flashing (Lead) from around my velux windows!!!

Well now its a right mess, all peeled up and half hanging off. I can repair it, but first I want to cure the problem :icon_eek:

Whats the best method of ambushing these beggers? Bait? I've tried sneaking up, but the patio doors are a bit of a give away, and my back garden doesn't lend itself to an elevated shot to the roof very well.

I can bust them in my tree no problem, its just the roof I'm struggling with. And i'm not repairing the lead until they've been seen off :censored:

I need some sleep, and so does her ladyship inside.

Any tips would be much appreciated in this sleep deprived time.

Hi Warbiscuit.

Welcome home safe and sound mate

You could try a plastic Owl on the roof/gutter.( Lifesize )

Bait the tree and wait.

Bait the garden and wait.

If that fail's......you need to buy her Ladyship and you a new house ;)

Good luck mate.

Weclome back WB :gunsmilie:

Build a nest in the garden stick a couple of chicken eggs in, maybe break one on the grass outside and leave the shell with the goo, wake up early and open the Patio door slightly, hide behind the curtain and wait!

Well i'm half way through my paper-mache owl deek.... shape is looking good, but not quite owl-like just yet. Gonna to wait until it dries and see how many more layers it needs to firm it up a bit. :big_boss:

I'll post some pics shortly.

try baiting them up using peanut butter on tin foil, i tried to get squirrels this way but got a lot of magpies feeding from it, if shooting is hard you could try to trap them by using a box proped up half off the floor with a stick attached to a long piece of string, so when the bird goes under the box feeding you pull the string and the box falls on them, very simple if it makes sense. good luck

Oli,

Although you did that and your quarry was specifically for Squizzers I must point out that it is actually

Illegal to bait in Magpies using shiny objects or things such as foil and other shiny materials.

Bumb I know (in my opinion) :wallbash: but the law is the law and we have to abide by it

your not aloud to bait them this way to shoot them but are you aloud to bait them to trap them?

and i believe you have to have a good enough reason to shoot them and prove they are being a pest.
