Get some pure lavender oil from Boots. It's a natural antiseptic so will help the healing, but it tastes so foul the dog won't lick it off after the first attempt. Sully 3
The dog licking the wound makes it raw, and doesnt allow the wound to dry and scab over, my Lexy is a nightmare for it, pro-longs the wound !
masmiffy 82
We had a boxer years ago which had a op on its back leg. Vet told us bucket on the collar to stop it biting out the stitches. Collar was real tight but the bugger got it off and opened the wound. Vet re-stitched but same thing happened. He then said leave it as it is let the dog lick it as its the best thing and it will heal up ok. It did indeed heal up real well prob took a bit longer but was fine
pitfurness 2
dogs have a natural anit-septic in there saliver, thus why they'll lick wounds on both them selves and you. it may take a little longer to heal but it's thier natural way. they clean themselves with their tongue so they know how to clean a wound. 90% of vets will put you off the idea so they can charge you ridiculous amounts of money to put a disc around their neck. A dog is essintialy a wild animal and do you think they have vets in the wild?? Any animal, be it a dog or an Elephant will not purpously do itself any harm so just let it do what it wants. All will be well after time. atb
