hi all ,

thinking of getting 1 of the above looking for peoples opinions on these or any suitable other scopes

regards

barry

Hello there!

I'm a Leupold fan and have two VX3's (4.5>14x50 and 6.5>20x50, both 30mm tube with parallex and Varmint Ret)and an LPS 30mm parallex 4.5>14x50 Duplex, I use them on a .22LR a 22.250 and a .270,

they are all superb, I prefer them to Nightforce and Schmidt (I have these to), particularly in the hunting 'types.

Get one with confidence.

aah well there's got to be a defender of europe on here! I have a S&B 6x42 on my HMR and I can honestly say it's the best scope I have had on a rifle, I can see as well, if not better in the dark with the scope than without, mine is the hungarian model, and though they're a bit more expensive than the Leupolds or other american glass, the quality is outstanding, plus I get the pride of ownership from owning an S&B that I personally wouldn't have got with a Leupold!

though if you want good better best, then I think swarovski may pip them to the post, but not by much. (just going on my 7x42SLCs, they seem slightly brighter but nothing appreciable)

(oh and also S&B make the USMC day scout sniper scope.... now if that's anything to go by, and according to S&B, "there's a bit of marine in every scope we make")

if you do have the choice between 30mm and 25mm scope tubes, just go for the 25mm, it makes no difference to the light transmission, just the strength, so unless the rifle is going to be thrown around and donked on everything, then the 25mm is the way to go, cheaper in terms of the scope and cheaper for the mounts as well!

no that's true, but I wanted an S&B, for me it was as I said about pride of ownership, not functionality, for me my rifle is both a tool and something I enjoy owning, shooting and looking at, likewise, I could have bought a CZ for half the price of an Anschuetz, but I didn't, as I wanted something a bit special, doubtless the CZ would have shot just as well, but I've shot a couple in .22LR and for me they just lack something in finish and finesse....., having said that they do and will go on for ever, but I think that's just rimfires for you!
