Interfering 'dog lovers'

Recommended Posts

Here's something that happened to me the other day and I wondered if any of you lot had similar stories?

I was out with the pups keeping up with their basic training (they're only 5 months), when an old woman and her husband came up and asked if it was ok to stroke them. I sighed and said okay, but warned they could be a little jumpy (they're 22"tts and still have a fair old knuncke on them). She asked me if I was going to take them to obedience classes, and when I said, no, I'll be training them myself, she looked at me like I'd just told her I was a kiddy fiddler! At that very moment the lads did me proud, they both walked to my side and sat down as if on cue. The look on her face was priceless, she just snorted and walked off whilst me and the pups watched her go.

Why do some people think that the only way to train a dog is to take it to a half hour class once a week?

Everyone who doesn't work their dogs is NOT absolutely clueless. Many do have understanding/knowledge/respect for animals and can train them very well. Many don't feed their dogs shit and treat them l

i can tell if someone is switched onto dogs just by their reaction when i tell them that my dogs are kept outside in a kennel all the time winter or summer.

People that dont work dogs will never have the same understanding/knowlegde/respect for the animals. They are absolutly clueless. These are the same 'dog lovers' that care for their pets so much they feed them shite, treat them like kids making them horrible b*****d things with no manners and end up as fat as pigs. Then they have the nerve to complain about hunting with dogs :censored:

Hell, I would have given them a treat for that move. Good pups.

Those people are over here in droves.

And not all of them complain about hunting.

But you have just made the same sort of sweeping general statement that some pet homes make about working ones. Seems that sort of person exists on both sides of the proverbial hedge

dog training classes can be really good for socializing dogs and teaching new dog owners how to train their dogs. It is better than a dog sitting in the backyard or on walks where they never see any other dogs or people. Just like with anything else there are crap trainers and schools, they are not all the same. It is just like paying for a gym membership or workout class ... yes you could go for a walk around and lift weights on your own, but it you are paying for the pleasure you "should" be more likely to attend the gym/class.

Looks like the jury's split here. Personally i think that some training is better than nowt, and as has been said, being judgemental works both ways. I agree though it always seems to be 'toy' breeds that are most dog agressive.

took my 1st lurcher to one of them obedience classes when she was 6mth old, at the end of the class the wee lady said there is no point in coming back as she was the best behaved dog there, it was my old dear that made me take her aswell coz she never listened to her, reminds me of the time when my mum had a wee drink and decided she was going to take her a walk late at night, i told her take her to the wee feild at end of road and not the big one at the other end, 45minutes passed and still no return so i phoned her and got a tirade of abuse about the dog no comin back, f****n dog this and f****n dog this, so off i went with the lamp, one wee shine with the dim light and she was at my side, to say i was amused was an understatement, couldnt help but laugh when she said she could hear her thunderin past her but not see her. lol
