Tyla 3,179
I know the feeling. My bitch has just had one toe and the claw next to it amputated. Tried everything else, this was the only option. Only time will tell if it works, fingers crossed.

Tiff 36
I paid about 50 quid to have a front outside toe off, never affected the dogs running or turning after the recovery
Guest it's all my land after 12
i ment have the toe off years ago i had fred a 3/4 g/houndXd/hound real fast decent type and useful too but forever knocking up toes so in my my wisdom i had a speed toe on one foot and a turning toe on the other removed ....... never the same dog again .... wish i had just rested him between injuries and accepted it as it was. was only talking to a mate the other night, around the same time as my dog (mid 's) he had a 3/4 g/hound x collie drifter another of the fabulous 3/4 crosses he too suffered from knocked up toe's and my mate had toe's removed the dog was never the same, speed toe's removed and the remaining turning toe's collapsing through the lack of support from the missing toe's ....he said " NEVER AGAIN " ..... SO give it a great deal of thought... how much discomfort is the dog in , how long is it off work each time, how often you go lamping, how many nights would you miss if you rest him up each time ....... just some "FOOD FOR THOUGHT" ...... best of luck but remember "when their gone their gone"

The toe removed was an inside middle toe on her rear foot. She ruptured the ligament so it was just flapping around. She did the same on her front last year but the vet managed to reattach it surgically, this time the ligament was so frayed that the stitches wouldnt hold. I thought about it long and hard but it seemed to be the only option. She has very high drive and no apparent awareness of the consequences, it makes her great to watch at work but constantly injured. She has missed out on most of last season and some of the one before, if she does it again this season then i'll retire her to the sofa and occasional ferreting and start again with a puppy. Has anyone tried binding the foot with the missing toe to provide extra support? My vet mentioned it but im not sure if he really understands how lurchers work. Binding doesn,t work the only way it will stay on is by useing superglue and its allmost impossible to remove sorry to say . How old is the dog it may be you have to choose better ground to run & get a pup for the rest.
