mixing young pheasants

Recommended Posts

Besides from all the other poults and ex layers i have, i currently have 3 lots of young pheasants. They are 4 months (20), 3 months (70) and 2 months old (25). At the moment they are in 3 diffent smallish pens. We have a large pen standing empty and was checking its alright to combine them all. The reason i ask is that someone mentioned to me they may spread disease to each other. I personally dont agree but i could be wrong.

Anyone want to confirm i can combine them?

There certainly is a disease risk, but more to the point is that the biggest will

peck the youngest ones to bits !

At 2,3,4 months old .Why are they not in the release pens ?They are all old enough to be out there learning about the big wide world ?????

Not the best idea to be mixing birds but if there is no disease in them then there is nothing to spread. What size of pen are they going to be going into......? As said you might get a problem with feather pecking if they are cramped, get some bio-bits if you feel thats going to be a problem for you.

if the pen has enugh space for all of them they should be ok at a pinch but i would only put then in if they have pleanty of space also it will be worth putting them on a dose of anti-biotics just to cleare up any nastys their is their or they will come up with the stress of catching ond crateing. coxie/ hexamiter are the most common.

they,re is a chance of diseaese but i would personaly just mix the 2 older lots of birds as they'l be eating grains now and keep the younger ones seperate as they will still be eating grower pellets also the older ones could be trickle released any time now good luck, george
