GOOD things come in threes?

Recommended Posts

So today it seemed all my luck appeared on one day!

As some of you know, I've recently started my own pest control business, after 4 years of so working for a national company. Things have been a bit slow but have picked up no end in the last couple of weeks.

Well today, I had a few jobs booked in, and the phone didn't stop ringing (or so it seemed) from about 7.30am! So good thing number one - plenty of work, equals money to pay bills. Happy days.

On the way to survey a rat job, had a call from my local gunshop telling me that my R10 is back from BSA and ready for collection. Good thing number two.

Number 3, I reach the rat job I'm surveying and the customer is 100% against the use of rodenticide, despite having a heaving rat infestation. She initially suggested cage trapping for release elsewhere (!) but I convinced her that we could take care of it with some break-back and fenn traps. I thought I'd suggest that I could maybe shoot a few too (which unless you can dedicate your life, isn't the most efficient method of control, as I'm sure you know - but I figured I'd try and get some fun out of it!). She though that was an excellent idea, so in a manner of speaking, I'd bagged myself a little permission for some scaly bashing.

Later this afternoon, I had a call which began with "I'm the gamekeeper in the village..." and I was expecting a confrontation due to the tone of his voice. He was enquiring about a wasps nest for a lady whose garden he looks after. When I told him the price, he bargained with me, and on the proviso that he'll send more work my way (and ever hopeful for some shooting permission!), I did him a 33% discount. I arrived at the property, and he was there to meet me. We had a little chat, and I treated the wasps nest. Just before I left, he said "well here's my number, if I can do anything for you, maybe you want to come clay shooting, or have a shot at some pigeons or something..?" I took the cue.

"Actually, I'm an airgunner really"

"Well there's plenty of rabbits for you to go at mate! I keeper four and a half thousand acres, and you can go where you like! I'll introduce you to the landowners and show you around next week".

And just like that, I've bagged myself a massive new shoot!

Good job the R10 is coming home, I have a feeling it's gonna be kept very busy!!!

Cheers all. Ran in to the gamekeeper again this morning- he's showing me around one evening next week.

Also I collected my R10 from the local gun shop, and celebrated my recent good fortune by buying myself a BSA Ultra Tactical in .177! Bit of an impulse, but I convinced myself that the business can justify it!
