The dog done a fox single handed at 9 months but accidental he was off lead with terrier bushing for rabbits and fox bolts, hes now 13 months and catching rabbits very well, i was sold the dog at 6 months but i finally got in contact with the breeder and it turns out hes 2 months older

than i thought and has a touch of bull in his breeding, another thing i wasnt told. Is he too young now as hes not puppyish as some dogs of this age are?

Anytime ive dug to foxes ,its easier to lift the terrier

and the fox out together with your hands ,as most

terriers are locked onto there game as you break through ,i

honestly think that slipping a lurcher at the end

of a dig is madness , id ave rather { before ban } give the

fox a second chance and let it run ,as how many guys on

here has seen good lurchers missing them on the run .

I know what your saying boots but i dont have permission i go with a mate who has, its on a chicken farm where the foxes must be killed, some of the earths are in heavy cover where there cannot be a run,

If I wanted an opinion from you I would have rattled your cage.....

Show some respect for your quarry... killl it humanely,,,,,,,,

If you can't get a clean shot and the only option is to use a draw dog, then so be it but these circumstances are very few and far between....

:clapper: I had something to say, so I said it, just because you don't like what I said doesn't mean that it was not worth posting...

constructive advice on the real question, your dog is 13 months, has killed on top, I take it with his bull blood he has a very strong jaw and is more than capable of killing a fox.... he is old enough now, if you think he's ready then he's ready, there's only one way to find out.... might jade him a bit if there is a big dog fox in there that latches on to his nose and he cant pull it out... might ruin him, but hey just remember you could have shot the fecker then any damage incurred wouldn't have been neccessary...

Swansea jack i was about to say thank you for the advice .. till i read the last part, your implying that everyone who doesnt use a gun at the end of digs would club the animal to death, whatever you think mate but i or the lads that bring me on their permission would NEVER do such a thing.

13 months is still to young i my opinion to let any lurcher have fox on thier own be it on the lamp, a slip after a dig or drawing give the dog plenty of runs with another dog and build up confidence then around my 17/18 months old if the dog ants to draw then let it draw. But as boots said it makes a better end to the dig to give the dog a slip on the fox at the end of the dig. Thats my opinion anyway. And swansea jack if your not gonny offer anything usefull then dont post on the subject just cause there is a ban in england doesn't mean that anyone from other places can't post on this fourm. I think you will find people from all over the world on here and lads how have pre-ban knowlage can still offer advice.
