Kill a grey Squirrel and get fined £1500

Recommended Posts

Hi Moxy Can you explain to me how you would humanely despatch a grey squirrel in a cage trap, without drowning it or using a gun to shoot it with.I have used cage traps for several years and I wont handle squirrels or mink, but I am always willing to learn a new technique.

my cage traps

I disagree mate, have you ever tried to handle a captured squirrel from a live catch trap,NOT the easiest way of putting your hand in to grab hold of is it.

take it to a vet and get charged £70 not a good idea

put a slug in its head probably a better option any way I can see this rumbling on

If you can not safely and humanely dispatch a cage trapped animal you should not be setting cages in the first place!!

Why would you be putting your hand in a cage to handle to grab hold of the live squirrel? and even the mention of a vet for dispatch

There are ways to corner an animal within a cage trap and hold it steady in order to perform a clean, safe and humane dispatch.

He deserves the fine for his ignorance

Who ever grassed him up needs a good leathering!   Fine a man £1500 condemn him as a criminal by giving him a criminal record for the sake of getting rid of Grey Squirrel! This country is pathetic!

This mans crime is he was born at the wrong time,he,like me, comes from a time when people were no.t so sentimental, everything went in the bucket ,pups ,kittens, rats ,mice,we also hung murderers, and

or let it out of the trap and if the terrier was to get it Oh what a shame!!

Firstly other than shooting the trapped animal there isnt any other form of humane dispatch without removing it from the cage and handling it, which in many cases would not be advisable.

Secondly, the aim is to corner/pin down the animal and hold it steady to enable you to perform a clean and quick kill.

The use of a pair of cage combs allows you force the trapped animal back to the end of the cage and hold it there for dispatch.

Drowning is not a form of humane dispatch.

You could always employ the GWCT,s approach and blast it with a shotgun from ten paces. Effective but not something im not willing to do with my cages

For once the arsepca did their job, the knobhead who drowned it in plain view of other people deserves the fine, criminal record and the associated publicity for a cruel and inhumane despatch. Yep it's only a squizzer but it still deserves to be killed properly, ignorance is no defence in law. Hopefully the publicity will make other retards stop doing it and treat them humanely. Yet another reason the sale of livecatch traps should be restricted to those suitably trained and capable of completing a humane despatch of the trapped animal.

Shoot it or bag and bash it both legal and sensible methods for killing a trapped squirrel.

 Drowning,..is a slow, stomach churning, terrifying death, for any land born mammal,.humans included...

I doubt that the old fellah who committed this heinous act,.ever gave a moments thought, as to what he was actually doing,..and ,..in my opinion,.the resulting fine, was a tad on the heavy side,..however,..the law is the law....

I seldom use cages for trapping Greys these days,.preferring instead, to use the Kania,.or Tube Trap...but,.when I do elect to take a problem bushy tail, with a live trap,..I dispatch them in much the same way, as I kill a rabbit...

This method was taught to me, by Fred Coultier of the New Forest..

All the best,.CHALKWARREN... :drink:

At last somebody talking some sense!

To be fair the guys a fool, if your going to set live catch traps you should have a method of humane dispatch figured out already and drowning is not a human way to kill anything. Bit heavy fine tho!

i would have expected a statement like that comeing from you :wallbash:

Alright idiot boy. . . . what exactly IS wrong with my statement?

I think it is in fact COMPLETELY understandable to expect folk who go about setting live catch traps to have thought of a humane way to dispatch of what they trap. I trap a lot of squirrels, rats, rabbits and mink in live traps and everything apart from the rabbits is pushed to one end of the trap with a comb and then given a shot in the head with the air gun. Killed dead in an instant.

And i believe that i am also correct in saying that drowning is NOT a humane method.

And i also think that i am right in saying the fine is a bit steep for the what he did EVEN though i think he's a bit of a fool for doing it.

BUt maybe it has f**k all to do with this statement and more to do with the fact that i objected to your muslim bashing on another post???

:feck:

reply to the voice of reason, drowning some thing is only the same as snareing, the guy who set the trap obviously did,nt have a gun to dispatch it ,he thoughgt it was a humane way to dispatch ,now if it was a sack of rats he was drowning the neighbor would probably have said f**k all in the first place, its the rspca getting on there high horse, throwing what little weight they have, bet that squirrel died a lot quicker than most snared rabbits, how many lurchers take out a fox in an instant not many,,ive shot squirrels with air riffles in the past, tough little fuckers took more than one pellet, would that be deemed as inhumane, ive shot hares with shotguns that have not died instantly ,screaming like a baby, would that be deemed as inhumane, and i dont want to turn this in to another muslim thread ,we all know your rose tinted veiws on that, but not once have i ever even mentioned the word muslim , slowly but surely all are rights are going down the pan, they will ban shooting animals with air riffles one day, soon i recon, mark my words ,1500 quid and a criminal record for drowning a tree rat, f****n worlds gone p c mad,
