Ideation 8,216
To be fair the guys a fool, if your going to set live catch traps you should have a method of humane dispatch figured out already and drowning is not a human way to kill anything. Bit heavy fine tho!
akton 15
I disagree mate, have you ever tried to handle a captured squirrel from a live catch trap,NOT the easiest way of putting your hand in to grab hold of is it. take it to a vet and get charged £70 not a good idea put a slug in its head probably a better option any way I can see this rumbling on
Richie10 345
How did anyone know? Shoot it with a airgun in the trap. RSPCA and the Animal Rights are gaining too much said, with the BBC backing. If only they realised that the RSPCA are in it for PROFIT!
akton 15
I use cage traps and they are very effective in what they are made to do.Obviously they are purposley made to capture Its only when you catch something ,you have the task of releasing it or despatching it,However trying to handle a wild Squirrel in order to despatch it is not a task I would do. 1. you can shoot it 2. you can take it to a vet and they will charge you £70 3.Drown it and now get fined £1500 or leave them for the RSPCA to deal with ,it will cost them lots of money beacause once trapped its against the law to release it

olim 28
it was a stupid way to kill it but i dont see why the rspca have the right to get involved
mangy1983 51
I remember growing up in the 90's when mink and polecat raids on my neighbours chickens were quite common and when my father used to trap them in a cage he would drown them in a big black tub. Nowadays there is a mink eradication scheme on the islands to protect ground laying birds and all applicants must have a FAC. cheers Callum

Rake aboot 4,936
The man was obviously an idiot. If you do not have the means to kill it,then do not trap it. And definately do not let someone see you drowning it !!! Erse!

Why would you be putting your hand in a cage to handle to grab hold of the live squirrel? and even the mention of a vet for dispatch There are ways to corner an animal within a cage trap and hold it steady in order to perform a clean, safe and humane dispatch. He deserves the fine for his ignorance

We live in a bungalow with a small wood behind us. I cannot leave a window open, because the place is crawling with grey squirrels. They even get up on the roof and crawl down the side of the walls. They are a complete menace, vermin.I beleive they are very dangerous if cornered in a confined space. I would not express an opinion on this topic , because I would probably end up in jail.
