Poachers worst enemy is a turncoat a poacher who as gone to the other side very untrustworthy you are either one or the other in my book as a few poachers who turned gamekeepers i know of turned into right twats overnight.

What about game keepers turned poacher - have you ever experienced this?

I have experience of a part time keeper / part time poacher - different attitudes to different folks land. Odd one that.

Not a weapon but an aid thats the soft idea that a poacher is just an old rascal who is out for somthing for the pot or beer money and the only one who gets shafted is the rich toff who owns the land .We all know that in the real world that a poacher is ------ Dear reader you can fill in the blank space :boxing:

I would have to say the longnet its the most quickest silent discreet way of catching any number of rabbits,I have ever seen

This longnet in the right hands is deadly.

I would put the snare as second best its silent, camoflaged and discrete, if set by experiened poachers.

and thirdly a good lurcher with a good nose and an experienced dogman.

Having poached, using all the above methods over a number of years and on land were I knew was keepered and watched intently by underkeepers and its village idiots,I have never been caught ,although I have nearly and almost had the near miss a few times.

In this day and age of night vision, mobile phones and the enviroment agency gill netting is almost gone there might be a few having ago but not as many as there was years gone by.

A rod a reel and some lures or flies on the salmon run is all I need,I dont sell any game or fish I have caught,I tend to put it on the table to enjoy it for its worth.

great subject and an enjoyment to add my opinion to it

Yes thats often the case, it's amazing how many people sell out all of their ideals when they have a chance at something they think is worth more. . . .

To shoot any dog other than one that is genuinely worrying stock is a disgusting crime.

a few is ok, but if you get one staying down digging the ferret out pre

locaters was a pain when somewere were you should not of been , gate nets

long nets, and drag nets, were used, 22 air rifle on a good roost on a

windy night could caused some damadge :whistling:
