hi all, just wondred what people think about the poachers main weapons old and preasent, i always thought it was .410 shotgun, catapult, ferrets or a lurcher/terrier

Profit poachers from the past it would be their long nets and the 22rimy or the 410 and lamping to some of the old school was frowned upon i can only speak of the area i was brought up in as in some parts of the country gill nets and such like would have been popular.Also the drag net for game birds was used a bit by the old hands.

I would imagine alot of damage could be done with a decent multi shot air rifle and a NV sight...

i saw a .410 walking stick shotgun advertised somewhere, i bet they would have been popular.

poachers of ald would have had to deal with keepers of old not chicken farmers of today.

if you let a shot off with a 410 you would have to run like a bugger to get away from the spot befor he came on his bike. snares are ok but need looking at thus for easey to get caught keeper finds a snare empty puts a hare in it waits by the snare gets poacher red handed with game buggerd! what you want is a way to take game with no marks or comotion so longnetting .gate netting .snareing from trees. drag netting. or even moonlight ferreting. modern day poachers have any new problems to deal with but if i was going to get a bag of rabbits it would be long net or gete net for me. getting caught with a gun means armed tresspass so say bye bye to certs or ever getting certs

in the old days........ they used their dole money !

Poachers worst enemy is a turncoat a poacher who as gone to the other side very untrustworthy you are either one or the other in my book as a few poachers who turned gamekeepers i know of turned into right twats overnight.
