Flamin'Nora! 50
when you next run it only slip it on the rabbits you really think it has a chance of catching ones that are sitting well out on the lamp or better still take it ferreting and allow it to mouth a few in the nets, if it seems keen leave a few nets off the side bolt holes and stand the pup over the top of the warren, hoping for a bolt right in front of it. Under those circumstances, most young dogs will come good and grab the bunny first chance they get. Dont bother with rats, it may get bitten and put off even more. If you want to try it on rats do that at a later date once its catching bunnies well 1 Quote Link to post

CorkyJohn 808
The bitch is only 9 months old & it is still only July FFS. Wait til the fields are cut, work on her basic training til then & I bet if she hasn't seen another rabbit til then she'll be a different dog. You have nothing to gain from starting her now but everything to lose 2 Quote Link to post
CorkyJohn 808
My lurcher pup wont kill. she gets up to her quarry and then she dosent seem to know what to do. She is nine months old and very timid. Someone has suggested putting her with a rat. Any ideas anyone? One other point, never ever listen to advice from the person who suggested rats as they obviously haven't got a f*****g clue mate Quote Link to post
hedz31 1,308
Dont put her with a rat pal thats an old stupid wives tale if she has a timid nature it will only ruin her at that age with a rat, you have to start small and easy build up her confidence with plenty of encouragement give her plenty one on one bite your tounge when she doenst do it shouting or loseing your temper will only knock her confidence shes only 9 months old shes got plenty of time yet dont be in a rush rushing only ruins dogs let nature take its course and gently help along the way try letting her watch an older dog run and take rabbits but keep her on the slip let the older dog have a few runs and pick ups then if she seems eager try her the best remedy i think is time and patience all the best hedz Quote Link to post

its ma baw 51
take it out with an experienced dog. atb Thats the best way to teach a pup If the dog is nervous it probably wont pick up when doubled up with a more experianced dog. A lot of pups go through this faze, just like everything else the dog has learned up on till now, it will take it time to learn to pick up. I reckon the dog is a bit too young anyhow mate to be honest. Your only looking to create other more unfixable problems like yapping etc. Quote Link to post
