mysterious lump?

my terrier bitch has almost overnight appeared with a hard lump on the top of her head, doesnt seem to be any apparent injury, no teeth marks from the other dogs, she is 1yr old now.

 

any ideas????

wouldn't worry too much about it , might disappear as quick as it arrived, my terrier was the same,,

Might be a sting? They can blow up like that and particularly on the head, might be worth trying half a 4mg Piriton tablet.. as long as you don't overdose - it's safe for dogs... hope all's well soon..

As said could be a sting (bee or wasp)but could also be a thorn

Possibly a small infection that has sealed itself off from the rest of the body: common after thorns, tick bites, fox bites etc. If you were to disect the lump: not suggesting you do, you may find it is full of hard, dried pus. The body will reabsorb it sooner or later. May take a few weeks. If there is no heat in the area and the dog is fine and the lump isn't growing bigger just leave it.

If there is heat that means infection and needs a vet if you can afford it. Ifyou can't afford a vet, then a course of broad spectrum antibiotics from elsewhere (try EDRD for vetinary supplies) will probably do the job but be aware that if you diagnose wrongly and treat wrongly you could still end up at the vet!

if its from something penetrating the skin such as a thorn etc it will have formed a absses, there will be a head somewhere. if it is use a poltice for it, i use Animalintex  its for horses but can be used on most animals use it wet for 5 hours and it will draw the crap out and take the swelling down this can be repeated when needed. atb mrs A.R.D<br>
