Ideation 8,216
Anyone who finds Hancocks (or rather sally's) methods of breeding and rearing pups for commercial sale acceptable, needs to take a long look in the mirror. There is absolutely no advantage to buying from him other than it's easy to get his number from cmw and he always has pups. If you respect dogs and the running dog world you would not support him. As for slagging off Del - he knows more about working and respecting dogs than most of the idiots on here, so wind your neck in. Quote Link to post

poacher3161 1,766
I was fortunate to see through the bullshit hancock and plummer and the heards of people who took their every word verbal or written as gospel in the begining so to speak one by seeing a dog out of the first litter ever bred the other was [bANNED TEXT] i offerd an invatation to a coursing meet on permission to a lad who had the two dogs balaam and barak as at the time pups out of this breeding were being pedeld as coursing lurchers. If people think i am talking shit please exsplaine why as at the end of the day its only my opinion based on real facts. An advert hancock had in the hunters year book 1981 well before some of the muppets thats slaging me off were born i bet. Alright, i'm sorry buddy what i said was perhaps a little bit cockish. What you do is your call, and i'm sure the dog was great. I don't doubt that some good dogs come out of the many that he breeds. What gets me is that i COULD NOT support a breeder whos dogs only ever leave the kennel to be mated, never worked, not even exercised. They are bred from at every opportunity, receive no socialization, and are just churned out in the largest number possible to make the greatest amount of money. I don't doubt that at one point David did work his dogs, but now he has VERY little to do with it other than name, it's sally that runs the business. And as for 'why are they still being bought' - how many people buy mcdonalds everyday? It aint good, it aint right and we all know it's unethical, but it's easy. 1 Quote Link to post
Guest LancsUK
This has'nt got much to do with the debate about hancock dogs but what size do collie /grey bitches tend to turn out at? and what type of cross would best suit a rabbit / hare dog? any replies would be greatful, thanks. shellywarwick 6
poacher 3161 i ended up with Balaam and Barak of of plummer and both of them were useless, Balaam was stone deaf and PTS and barak i gave away plummer never even asked how they were doing. To be fair to brian i had a mating off of Merle and breed some good pups, a great grand son of these is the brown merle dog in the Snatch film. To be fair i never saw balaam and barak run as the lad who had them at the show did not turn up with them at the coursing meet but did turn up with a lad who had a dog out of merles first litter he sired the same lad did however have one of the best non saluki blooded hare killing lurchers i have ever seen at the time a cross of grey/deerhound x greyhound/collie and i could never weigh up why this bitches prowess was never mentioned in books and magazine publications at the time but his 3 quarter bred dog out of merle was always getting a mention now and again. woodmat 1
my old mans got a hancock bitch 3/4 grey 1/4 border, 18 mth of age turning out a cracker, picked up and retrieved its first rabbit out ferreting, at just over 5 mth old, only a baby rabbit but it still caught it, to me its down to personel preference, if you like them, you like them, if you don't, you don't. thats probably why we don't all drive the same cars. lol Edited July 26, 2010 by woodmat Quote Link to post

For a couple of guys that don't like the mans dogs you don't half bang on about them. Your pretty opinionated when it comes to Hancock...how many dogs you had of him?..And you don't come across as cockish just arrogant...who are you to tell anyone where and how to spend their money?...concentrate on your own dogs and gi yourself peace.
