does any one run hancock dogs on here just wondering if they are any good ?

alright mate have u been down to have a look at his kennels and dogs? i understand what some people say about the dogs just being breeding machines i must admit i really didnt like seeing so many dogs in kennels with min attention but he seem to know everyone of his dogs personaly. he never tried to push any dog on me i spent about 3 hours down there chatting with him and looking over his dogs and thats after chatting with him and his daughter over the phone a few times asking questions before i decided to go and have a look. for me i really wanted to know the history of any dog that i brought and its parents, i wanted to know someone was at the end of the phone if i needed advise which i did and he followed up phones calls just to check on me and the dog, he said if i wasnt happy with my dog for any reason weather health or behaviour like constant barking or aggresion i could take him back and get my money back or swap. he even said maybe have a look at other dogs elsewhere and compare dogs. there was even a couple there at the same time as me who already had one of his dogs but wanted to get another one because the dog he already had had broken its toe and he said that it will affect his hunting and so on but mr hancock must of spent about an hour trying to talk him out of rehoming his old dog and buying another one to replace it but the bloke wouldnt have it and took another one. i spoke to quite a few other breeders and all they cared about was selling any dog to anyone had no real advise on the breed couldnt show me both parents and so on. mine is now nearly 9 months old and is so easy to train and i havent got a bad thing to say about my dog i havent entered him yet but will be this winter and im confident he will make me proud i only want him to specialize in rabbits i dont hunt other game with dogs but my mate has a two year old hancock and he tells me it will tackle anything and is every happy with his. im not saying his are the best dogs and im sure there is better out there but for me its about personl choice go and look at as many breeders as poss ask as many questions as poss and ask yourself what u want a lurcher to do for u. i have always been told its what u put into your dog that makes a dog. hope this helps mate and ATB

Why call them hancock dogs their collie hybred lurchers that any body whos been around lurchers knows the cross can make a good versatile lurcher in the right hands just because a puppy pedlar decided

Hi, mate i went to look at his dogs six weeks ago, i was less than impressed , dont get me wrong i have seen some of his dog work in the past and i will say they were very good, but common sense shoul

tell me why its a crock of shite and answer the question i asked or are you too busy reading your plummer books

My pup is 4 months now and I know what people on here say about his dogs and the conditions they live in. Some of his dogs probably dont go to homes much better after leaving him. But anyways I have got her and Im a firm believer that a dog is what you make it. Since day one she has fitted right in with my shepherd , cats and kiddies. She was crate broken in an hour and house trained in a day. Retrieving too hand from the first day i got her , sits , down position and walking to the heel. Not saying she is 100% yet but she is clever and out on walks if she does clock birds, rabbits and squirrels she is straight on them. Before anyone jumps down my throat I do not encourage her and dont go looking. But from what I am seeing at this age she is looking very promising. Dont know if this is of any help

Sounds like a good pup you have mate and thats great. However just because you MAY get a good one is no reason to buy an animal that will hopefully be with you for ten years or more. I'd want good grafting parents. Also i think that to continue to support his puppy farm whist in the knowledge of what goes in there shows a lack of respect for lurchers and dogs in general. There are so many other options of where to get a pup from out there - why pick this one? Honestly - i think it's due to lack of knowledge or experience.

Out of interest what initially led you to Hancocks door?

The rescue centres are full of dogs bred from good grafting parents.. fact.

The majority of people I know who have Hancock bred dogs are happy with them, probably a higher average than people going to the real deal breeders but that's not likely to be compared or proven.

Whilst I don't agree with the volume of pups bred in his kennels the fact remains, you get what it says on the tin, ie half cross border collie greyhound is just that, and whilst I agree you can't make a silk purse from a sows ear an owners influence cetainly has a bearing on the finished item, sadly however the average lurcherman is a complete and utter tosspot who will ruin many dogs of various breeding before he admits defeat and moves on to anotheer pastime but will however claim to be an authority on lurchers and claim to be an expert and the twenty, thirty or more lurchers that have passed through their hands have been substandard, nothing to do with them. I have an equation, the fewer the dogs the better the man, for a good dogman will succeed where a lesser man will fail..

Spot on if only buying pups from proven workers was the case no one would touch khan jihad but he,s apparently producing some good stuff people are paying good money for stud ,Struggles to catch fleas apparently. I,v got dogs with a fantastic linage and a couple with none to speak of if both were seen working you wouldn,t know which was which

Notice all the good dogs were owned 'years ago'. If you are set on a collie cross then use a good fast tough hill collie and a good working grey. People shouldn't buy pups off him just supports a puppy farm that treats it's dogs crap.

I agree whoever breeds the pup can put a name to them its [bANNED TEXT] they do with the name after its made. I have had and I suppose still have bred down lurchers from him, my last bitch both her parents came from him. This I know for sure is both parents of my bitch worked and worked hard. I outcossed my bitch who was basically beardie border with a big dash of grey to a 3/4 grey bull but the pup i kept back looks just like his grandad but red merle instead of blue same size build. the bitch i had was great at stuff that didnt bite back now retired but i have several witnesses that can vouch for her prowess on the blue mountain hares. I am totally against puppy farming I breed for a replacement thats it.

Sorry X38 but I find that story hard to believe ! I kno, see it doesnt make business sence to him, all this rollox about the pups being subdued, what a total crock of S, Im going to stir up the hornets nest here and I honestly dont want to, but I feel that cos he (Mr Hancocks) not on here, he cant stick up for himself, Ive dealt with him on numerous occasions, he totally understands the bad press he get's, he works hard to assure perspective buyers and minimise the risk of his name being dragged even more through the mill, why would he put himself in a position like that, he told me " any genetic issues would be sorted by him and a replacement would be offered", however he did say that dogs wouldnt be taken back, should circumstances dictate,(family breakdown etc) which I dont blame him at all.

My opinion is that some who bad mouth Hancock and his dogs aint a clue what a Hancock dog's about, or if they ve seen one, and it's been trained or entered wrongly, you reap what you sew, no doubt David Hancock is an astute puppy dealer, I dont neccesary agree with the way he goes about his business, but his kennels are checked every 6-12 months by the RSPCA, and as we know they would revoke his licence in a blink of an eye, I have no alegance to him, I am merely stating that Ive had 2 pups off him and Ive got what I wanted, you get what it says on the tin....the rest my friend is down to the trainer, I await a torrent of abuse, but please understand I am merely making my point,

Craig.

As long as you got what you wanted out of it i suppose the fact that the guy is a puppy farming peddler whos dogs are treated as money making breeding machines who are never excercised let alone worked, and kept in poor condition doesn't really matter. . . .:wallbash::thumbdown: Also his dogs are nothing special at all just a collie x greyhound with no working pedigree, thoughts to genetics or any work put into them, they offer nothing another litter will not other than it's easy to find, he's always got dogs and his name is attractive to the idiots who read plummer and take it as gospel. And he would say that about genetic issues - must be a regular problem when you know f**k all about the two dogs your breeding from.

if you have one off him that turns out to be a pile shit, you will get "i told you so"if you end up with a good one,you will hear"well your bound to get the odd one with the amount of puppies he knocks out"no win in my eyes.

i only got mine because it was a x i wanted and she came up for sale on here at the right price and the right time for me to take on a new dog,ok slightly spur of the moment but hey f**k it right, when you want something you want it.

so far the bitch is doing well as a pup which don't give much as to what her working ability will be like but there is only one way to find out, training her has been a piece of piss really compared to some dogs iv had but to be honest i don't expect to much from my dogs in that way, retrieve and recall bang on is a must im not in this game for a dog to do f*****g tricks just be good at what it was intended for.

if she don't work out well that's the end of that, but i feel the blame will lie with me and not the bitch as there are a lot of people that can get more from a dog than others through their knowledge and understanding, both of wich i have little lol.

never been to his farm so can only go on hear say as to the conditions but very helpful when i enquired about the bitch, which is what i would expect, and you im sure, from someone selling you something weather it be a dog, gun whatever.

if nothing else, the name hancock will be used in thread after thread but hey gives us all something to talk about,or should i say continually slag off,the entertainment value is in his name if nothing else,so good luck to my little hancock bitch pup and everyone else can :feck: until the day i put a thread up saying its in the ground and then we can go back to the,"I TOLD YOU SO"

Didn't say the dogs were no good, just that they are produced in a way and for reasons i could not morally support by buying a pup directly from him.

Sounds liek your pup has settled in well, although I dont agree with the dog is what you make it line, its a proven fact that the socialisation period is vital in the development of a dog, if a pup isn't socialised properly it will never attain its full potential no matter what you put into it. Sounds like you have a good pup but the nature of breeding litter after litter for financial gain makes me puke and most litters never receive the socialisation and care that pups should.........

unless u know someone who is breeding two dogs and u know them well how else are u meant to buy a pup with checkable history. so many people but adds in papers and mags saying this dog is out of so n sos dog lines and have been proven bull shiters or been breeding from stolen dogs. at least u dont get all that bull shit from hancocks they are what they are and you get out what u put in. and i understand people dont like hancocks breeding programe and so on but they are quite happy going out through the whole year killing anything there dog sees even if its breaking the law dont get me wrong i think the law is aload of liberal shit but i dont hunt anything out of the law because i dont want to risk losing my dog and it being destroyed.
