moonlighter 1,164
big dog or small hares?? im not saying it took awhile to run the hare to death but the trees were bare in one shot in the next a combine harvester was cutting the wheat still dont like the saluki style but i will give the dog its due it stuck at, it retrieved and looked good with its hair blowing in the wind. but if that bloke had stamped instead of kicking the hare up he would have saved the dog the trouble love the last line Quote Link to post

stroller 341
never set out to course a hare in my life never will despite the ban they are big horrible smelly things and take a lot of carrying(And ive carried on hare shooting drives), hare dogs no good to me i need a dog that can work with ferrets and catch rabbits, i dont get the idea behind kick ups like that, a good whippet would have mangled that hare on the first turn. and as for running them on flat fen or plough whats the big deal would the dog be the same coursing a hill hare over peat and bog where he loses sight and he has to use his nose a little bit? a lot of people see hare coursing as the ultimate test of a dog i never have, its just a point of view and obviously i need different things from my dogs. There was a lot of humour attached to my last post but obviously it was missed and i dont want to upset the old hare coursing mafia in case they put a hares head in my bed 1 Quote Link to post
its ma baw 51
Firstly, can I just say how honoured I am to get a thread posted for my attention I feel like I have arrived Now, as for the footage........... It was ok mate if I'm being honest. To the untrained eye it probably brought a few semis as is evident when you read the replies. But alas, for me it was nothing more than a publicity video. f**k, I've even seen a wee bit of footage that made Gary Nevil look like a footballer lol. Most of the hares that dog caught were all trying to head the one way cos we all know on land that size, the nearest cover is only going to be one way. The dog therefore just plants itself between the cover and the hare and goes up and down, up and down, till the hare slowly tires and closes the gap. The dog pretty much picked up the hare on its first attempt which was after a while. Never seen it over shoot, fleck or even show many bends. It was all pretty much as I said.... blocking tactics. Power to the dog though, it can only do what it can and its learnt the knack admirably but in other terrain where the ground suits both the hare instead of just the dog..... I reckon not.
