andyfr1968 772
Hi, mate. Unless you've got a problem getting the land passed for rimfire, I wouldn't bother. You don't gain that much extra range by going over the limit and a rimmy's a hell of a lot more versatile than an airgun. Cheers. Quote Link to post
sureshot11 1
I have to agree with the above but they do have there place I`v got 2 FAC Rapids 177&22 945fps in both 10.5 and 18gr zero at 45 yards and take out to yards no problem , people I know do longer but I leave that for my 17HMR, the difference between 177 and 22 is after 50 yards the 22 drops more ,but if you sell the 22 will shift better. If you fancy a drive meet up and I`ll take you out to try. Headshot08 36
Yeah the ground im looking at using it on is small and the chance of a rimmy begin passed is slim but certainly not a HMR. Just wandered its not certain. Im doing a good job with my BSA lightning 177. Steve Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
Getting a FAC airgun has obvious attractions after a 12ft lb gun, but there are pitfalls. You need a FAC for starters, cabinets, and of course they need some charging. The used market is limited, so they don't sell that well, even though new they cost more...they also cost more than a .22lr of course!! They are excellent tools at what they are excellent at, and if you just want a bit more than 12ft lb, with little chance of a .22lr then consider one. Most people seem to run them between 25-30ft lb...(mine is about 26ft lb...but I also have .22lr, .17HMR, .22WMR, and a selection of centrefires...oh yes..and a 12ft lb as well), some go more powerful but the pellets get expensive and harder to find as the power goes much past 30ft lb....and shots per charge tends to become an issue in many makes! Seems most also go for .22 in FAC, more shots per charge, bigger hole, more stopping power! Quote Link to post
Edgar 1
I personally think FAC air rifles are a waste of time. If you have an FAC get a rimfire, they are quiet, can be used for close range foxing and can be used with smaller loads for barns ect. 12ftlb air rifles are great tools, perfect for pest controll in barns, not so good for rabbits and crows due to their limited range. I'm not slagging 12ftlb air rifles, they are perfect for anybody who wants a bit of inexpensive sport or some well shot rabbits or pigeon for the table but doesn't want the trouble and expense of a licence and cabinet. Years back I tried to get a large wood passed for RF that had a foot path running along the top edge. The FAO wouldn't have any of it but passed it for an FAC airgun. One RWS52 later and all was OK. Horse's for course's and all that... Still didn't gain much though for all the extra grief. Cheers. Edit... As Deker's said, selling them on can be a pain. I got mine new, had it tuned to 32ft-lbs then could only sell it back to my gun shop for a fraction of what I'd paid for it........ Edited July 19, 2010 by andyfr1968 Quote Link to post
