francolin 449
You can waste a lot of time digging a terrier that gets in to rabbits, loads of terriers come to a sticky end getting to ground on rabbits, theres a big difference between having a terrier on the lead and picking where you put it in,and a free running terrrier doing what it likes, and it will like to follow rabbits into a hole even if it wont work fox, guaranteed. Spaniel/whippet terrier/whippet spaniel[got one ordered myself]anything but a terrier for me. This is not a dig at lads who work rabbits with terriers, done it myself and seen some good ones, its the hazards that come with it i dont want. thats a good point ,know of a few been lost in bad places when bushing, when we were kids and unable to keep many dogs all the streets pet dogs went rabbiting we had a right pack all shapes, but they all took to it to some degree. Same as mate,as Dell says back in our day we took anything and tried it,some of the best ive seen had a touch of collie/lab,and whippet x terriers were rated highly by some. Quote Link to post
sambo123 593
Depending on where you are hunting, rabbiting is a big skill in a dog. I dont care what anyone says. You'll get all the digging lads takin the piss but it is. It takes a good dog to catch rabbits in certain places and it is definately a skill, yeah nearly all dogs will take to it but some are shit and some are excellent.Anyone who says different has never seen a good dog.I dont think theres anything better than watching a couple of terriers hunt rabbit in a thick hedge.I'm not just talking about running around in circles yapping its tits off, I'm talking about determined dogs with good noses that always catch. A good rabbit dog is skilled, wether you like it or not. Sam 1 1 Quote Link to post
