AKeeNShoT 5
hi all.....ive been doing a lot of woody shooting this last few month with my mate the thing is we keep looseing birds in cover and hay fields.......we both own terriers and lurchers but never trianed a gundog so how much should i be looking to pay for a ess that is basicly trianed sit stay and fetch will do, i can get the dog out beating during the shooting season no problems...... most gundog men i no say £250/350 do,es this sound right as ive looked at prices for pups just off the tit and the prices range from £350/500 Quote Link to post
hily 379
I would advice you to get a lab for that type of work a good ess would not have the temprement to stay still for long.but to answer you tops £350 dog £400 bitch thats kc reg, chipped, docked and first jabs to be collected at eight weeks old.whatever you go for good luck.forgot to add if you can get a trained dog of any type for that price then there has to be summit wrong with it a trained dog is worth it's weight in gold Quote Link to post
poacher3161 1,766
Your talking thousands for a well trained gun dog and rightly so they dont train themselfes.Springers without papers [pups] can be bought for £200 if you shop around.atb dell Quote Link to post
rickyspringer 15
You know that the price varies with the pups, but your looking around £800 and over for a dog which is trained, or has had some good training behind it, I agree with Hily a lab will be better suited to yourself, Good Luck with whatever you get Quote Link to post
AKeeNShoT 5
i like labs and can have a pup off me mate but an ess would suite me permission better then a lab i only hide shoot this time of year twice a month if am lucky but i do a lot of rough shooting all year round useing my terriers to flush for me . but like i said at the start of the thread i can get out beating all winter and enjoy the action a ess gives , a lab needs hip tests eye checks the works in the 1st year or so.......but thanks for your replys i will be looking into things with a good mate of mine to find the right type of dog Quote Link to post
rickyspringer 15
I agree a ESS will definitely suit yourself now you have mentioned what activities it will be doing, what are you looking for in the dog and so on, some good litters about currently, think some are priced excessively, know of a great litter in ireland and transportation can be arranged, with a quality pedigree and priced unbelievably cheap, Quote Link to post
liftboy1 0
Just thought I would put my 5pence in, I saw an advert in the for sale section for ess with no papers dogs £300 bitches £350. My friend has a ess from good stock with papers and paid £250 a pup. I did comment on the price but a reply was also given, but to me I would happily pay £350 with papers. Do we buy beanz in silver tins, or in green pretty looking tins? It seems to look more attractive. Just my thoughts. Quote Link to post

EastTyrone 2
i got my pup for £100 with no papers and hes bigger and doing better than alot of pups his age Quote Link to post

EastTyrone 2
If you get a dog with no paper ask youself why they have no paper? IE the dam's under one or had 6 litters or its over 7 year old! Now am not saying all dog's with no paper's are like that but just check Why their not any!!! ATB so just because a dog has no papers means that he is worthless?? so what if the dam is over 7 years old if she is a good worker it makes no odds it makes no odds if a dog isnt papered, i know people who's best springers have come from dog kennels or whos dog is a cross bred springer. Theres a saying that goes "you get olut of it what you put in" a dog might have the best breeding in the world all the FTC's you want but he can still be useless. fair enough my pup is 14 weeks old, i got him for £100 , i got him down from £150. The reason he is not registered is because the dog is registered with the ikc and the bitch with the english kennel club. there froe it costs extra money, and time which the owner couldnt avail of. Ive had my pup with other springers at 16 and 18 weeks old and my pup is very close in build and height to them even stronger than 2 of them, my pup is also bolder and more adventurous than them with ftc through their blood. I think its time for pepolpe with a snobishness in them over gun dogs to drop it. Quote Link to post

You missed my point i know were u are comming from, telling people to be carefull but there is a snobishness within gun dogs that needs to be abolished snobishness you can say that again!! The papers are just a trust thing!! Like i could breed from my old springer who's 7 in october and use her daughter's papers who's 3 in november!! fu*k me av seen some sh*t dog's with papers! My grandad's dog is a topper and his sister both have no paper but both dam n sire had paper's!! when i was 16 i got a springer bitch off a fella who said both sire/dam had died sire was hit by a car and dam died having pup's then about 6 month later i found out who he was PuPy farmer Quote Link to post
