Meroman 105
At least the bird is not dead if that is any consolation to you, I've had it happen to me and always found the bird dead. if the birds leg is swollen and the ring is cutting into the leg cut the ring off with a nail clippers and bathe the wound with an antiseptic like savlon or tcp in a solution of water to prevent infection. Fingers crossed for you.

J Darcy 5,871
Rings are accidents waiting to happen. And they always seem to happen to the special birds too. My hen Blackcap fell foul to her ring caught on a tiny sliver of wire.I was totally devestated,i was hoping to breed her. The season before she had nested an dlaid two eggs but had failed to hatch them. The following breeding season was awaited with anticipation, but the silly ring put paid to that! ferretertom 7
Yeah we dont bother putting them on our others only the british birds as we have to by law. Shame though as i like to put trees and branches in the avairys for them to make the feel comfy but they are hazards with rings on. Its legal to keep unrung British in the UK but you cannot sell them or exhibit them. Having said that the onus is on you to prove they are aviary bred and then the problems begin.
