Pest call from a local farmer

Today was a very interesting day for me. With all the risk that comes with it, I packed up my stuff and took my proverbial ball to go play elsewhere lol. This time though It was involving my employment. Bullshit talks and money walks as the saying goes so I walked to the money… lol hopefully it doesn’t bite me in the rump. On the way home from making it final, I got a call from Mr. Nethaway telling me how he had quite the hog problem but they were all under buildings that had concrete floors. He gave me a little more incentive telling me that after I was done with that he wanted me to bring my plot maps over so he can go over it and mark out all the propertys that I will have full access to. This guy is a major farmer in the area and has more property then I can handle on my own.

And on to the meat of the story.

I took Gravy and Gumby so I could get Gravy to bolt the hogs out from under the concrete out to Gumby. The two really work well together. Gravy has a knack for bolting game and Gumby understands the importance of staying still and not getting over anxious. I have only had one successful lurcher under my belt so I have very little experience compared to some but I can’t emphasize enough how much it helps me that she stays patient and isn’t digging the shit out of holes. Gravy just entered under the first slab so Gumby headed down to the exit hole and patiently waited. I stayed calm and motionless while waiting. As I was watching Gumby I noticed her lip start to curl but she stayed motionless through out her body. Her lip lowered and in a second later started to curl up slowly…LOL.. I was trying to hold back laughing. She was staying completely steady but her mouth was going from a slight hair lip look to full “Im gonna sink some teeth into your ass†look. Then she darted to the hole under the slab and came back up with her and Gravy’s first catch of the day.

Catch number two was no bolt. Gravy entered into a set between two buildings in the middle of a dense thicket and started into a bay. I worked my way through to her and after a lot of clearing located her under a pile of fire wood. After moving all the wood I found a mattress spring lol, I dug six inches and came to a quick halt. An unmistakable clang of concrete dulled my mood a bit. Like a gift from the terrier gods within a foot of where I located her a 10 inch long piece of square tubing filled with lead lay. I found a seam in the concrete and worked at it with the chunk of steal until I broke a nice size and nearly square shape piece free. Just under the surface of the slab were a tightly wedged dog and a very unhappy hog. I took the opportunity to unsnap Glitter to have a go at it and she fired up good and did the final draw to wrap the day up.
