Helen 2
I am sick to death of off lead dogs!!!! the bloody owners always act so nasty and offended if you say anything as though their f*****g dog has a right to attack other dogs. What did it's stupid owner say? I also use Zambuc and would love to know where you can get if from now, I have a very old tin and thought you couldn't buy it anymore. I use it for everything from wounds to scaly leg on hens it's fantastic. Quote Link to post

Tom Pickering 28
Was your dog on the lead mate? Has the owner of the dog taken care of your vet bill? Hope you booted the little f****r through the air . Easiest one to reply to as im back on lunch break quickly. Was only walking down to get my fish and chips when it happened. Came running out of their drive, I was booting it but she was on the lead and starting spinning so managed to do both sides. Their paying for the vet bills which is at £350.. Been very inconvinent as we went away the following day for a week. so limited leaving her by herself or taking her on nice walks etc.. also had about 10 trips to the vets.. THANKS FOR ALL THE REPLYS - its really appreciated. Quote Link to post
divingshoes 0
Definately use betadine spray you can get from chemist its a dry powder spray and kills all bugs its a variant of the stuff they use in the operating theatre. Great stuff hope this helps. Quote Link to post

talljim 0
Obviously not ideal for something so severe, but I use friars balsom on cuts and bites on my 2. One of them got bitten on the neck by a bull greyhound that was running around loose with no owner to be seen, on closer examination at home there was quite a deep puncture wound behind one of the lads ears, cleaned it with salt water and then put on some balsom, worked a treat. Luckily he was wearing a thick hound collar as there were quite a few nasty bite marks on that. Apparently the same dog went on to attack another dog which needed stiches, so I got a lucky escape, poor lads were only 3 1/2 months old and I was worried it would freak them out with other dogs, but they were fine (I think my gf was more shook up than them as she was with them when it happened). It really annoys me, as the dog was clearly poorly trained and/or looked after. If it carries on like this is likely to bite a person or be destroyed. Quite unnessisary. Jim Quote Link to post

Hopefully it picks on the wrong dog next time and that will be the end of that. Quote Link to post

collie/grey 238
Far too common with dogs this day and age, that will heal no time. My greyhound bitch had an abscess under the skin when i got her which i was unaware of and it burst causing her to chew herself down to the muscle, it had to heal on it's own as there was no skin to stitch together, she did it at the end of april and know you wouldn't know it happened, i used hibi scrub also as that's what the vets gave me, 2-3 times a day and reduced as the wound got smaller. This is what my bitch done # Now just over 2 months after it looks like this Quote Link to post
skycat 6,173
Do not use Hibiscrub more than once: it actually damages the tissue and will prolong the healing time. It is useful for sterilizing the wound initially. DO NOT use wound powder either: a wound of this type needs to granulate slowly, healing from the edges inwards. Granulation also occurs in the centre of large skin tears. The area needs to remain moist, and forcing it to scab up too fast will only result in irritation for the dog and an increased risk of infection. Allow the dog to lick and keep the wound clean.A dog's saliva contains enzymes which break down the cell walls of bacteria and stops wounds from going bad. If the dog doesn't lick the wound itself you can keep the site moist by smearing Intrasite Gel or honey on it twice a day.itself. Wash twice a day in boiled cooled salty water (one teaspoon per 400 ml) and it should heal fine with no other pastes or potions. If the wound starts to look infected (only likely if the dog is in poor health generally or has a faulty immune system or is being fed a bad diet) then give a course of antibiotics, but I've never found this necesary.
