My old bitch attacked

Recommended Posts

My eldest bitch got attacked two weeks ago this friday. I was walking her just to get some dinner and a boarder terrier was off the lead and attacked her. She got ripped either side and one being on her back muscle  Which has proven a difficult task to heal, simply from her stretching and having so much tension on the stitches.

Just got back from the vets this evening - Again.. The first lot of stitches got removed with no bother, nearly 4 inches but in a nice area to heal well.

The stitches on her muscle have already been restitched once (triple layer aswell) They have also been removed today but the wound is to be treated as an open one.

Heres a couple of pics, this is the open wound which still seems a fair size.

Please could any one give any tips from previous experience similar to these when treating open wounds. I'll be using Hibi scrub 3-4 times a day.

Thanks Tom

Poor dog!

I use an ointment called F10 . . , your vet should be able to get it for you, its brilliant stuff, speeds healing up massively and keeps infection at bay. Did the vet advise hibi scrub 3/4 times a day? IMO getting the wound that wet so often will not aid healing, and encourage bacteria with all the moisture. I'm no expert and will stand corrected, but if its clean and nice and pink i've always just used a healing gel/ointment.

Talking from experience of an open wound that wouldn't heal i would just use salty water twice a day to let the new skin granulate and heal like the vet would want. I wouldn't be putting anything else on it unless YOUR vet advises different

open an amoxicillan capsule up and pour the powder into the wound it will look manky and crude but it is very effective repeat every other day and clean between aplications with the hibi-scrub

Edited to add that you'll only need to do this for a couple of days

Hibi scrub is great but don't use it too often, once a day would be fine and make sure it's diluted 1-10 10ml per 100ml water (i use boiled water thats cooled). As already mentioned saline water is often all thats needed and underrated. I've used just salt water on punture wounds and they never become infected. I use a teaspoon of salt per pint of cooled boiled water. The secret with any wound is make sure it's kept clean and keep an eye out for any moisture coming from the wound. Betadine spray dries wounds really well and promotes healing, you may beable to get it from a chemist,i get mine off a mate so can't be certain.

i used to use sulphalinamide powder.pack it into the cut.worked for me.worth getting other peoples opinion about this first cos i am by no means as knoledgable as some of the lads an lasses on here.my 8 month old pup just got bitten by a shepperd.ripped the skin but thankfully nowt to serious.few stitches and shell be right.really out of character for the shepperd and the owner coffed up instantly and still apologises when he sees us.good luck with your dog.atb.mat
