tillylamp 1,828
hi, i went out on the fields today for a bit of pigeon shooting, cos I was gonna try some different cartridges. Out of the seven I got only one was a clean kill and all the others weren't even near dead. One shot just maimed and didn't kill them. I had to kill them my self which I have never had to do before. I really believe that these new cartridges that I got are to blame. In all my time of shooting this had never ever happened until today. I was hitting them at the correct distance and on impact you knew you had hit the bird cos of all the feathers that flew off them and yet they still mananaged to fly away so I had to shot it twice in the air to stop it flying off injured. I know a bad tradesman blames his tools but these cartridges are crap. Has anyone else had the same experience with these cartridges? They are made in Italy and in the picture you can see the box with the name. TL Quote Link to post

TL tbh mate there a pretty good cartridge, i know alot of lads who use them as a 'high bird or roost shooting' cartridge. you maybe just got a bad box? iv used them on driven pheasants and they dont half fold them up. im not saying there the best but just what iv found Quote Link to post
activeviii 8
snipes are a very good cartridge. it maybe that the smi are close to the speed of your old carts and the snipes are a wee bit slower. because of this you are hitting the bum of the bird and shedding feather or clipping the wind when it is downwards stroke. because their slower cartridge try aiming for the eye of the bird and this will bring you shot up and forward resulting in a dead bird. are the smi's the ones with the gas check value in them? give the carts another go but take into account what the speed is and shot weight, slower, heavier carts need a little more lead. samearl14 11
I find the 12 bore sipes to be a superb cartridge. Particularly for high driven pheasants and high pigeons. Just from my own experiences with them. Sam Quote Link to post
nod 285
no such thing as a bad cartridge, person behind the gun maybe Quote Link to post
tillylamp 1,828
hi, after reading all your replys it seems that my choice of words are wrong about these cartridges for that i appologise, it must be that this cartridge does not suit my gun or me.i will go back to my original cartridges. thanks for your input. SEAN3513 7
i would say its down to cartridge speed.........a little bit more in front may cure the problem i always stick to one make/size etc.......you are certainly more consistent if you do. good luck atb sean Quote Link to post
danebrewer10 6
the carts may be a bit slower or faster so consequently you may be hitting them with the edge of the pattern and not catching them right in the middle, otherwise get some big paper, I'd suggest two widths of wrapping paper taped together and pattern them, the cart/chokes/gun combo may not suit. also confidence I find plays a big part, if you don't believe in your equipment and aren't confident in it, then you won't do so well... clint 45
When change cartrage, in well loved gun. Sometime take time to see where pattern is from barrel, & maybe you have to change shoot style to suit, this . Thro leaf in river, or water, shoot from bank, see pattern on water, maybe left/right/high/low to ususal. Edited August 5, 2010 by clint Quote Link to post
