lamping training

hi

i have a young male harris hawk, i am beging to intoduce him to qurray at the moment taken rabbit in the day, please could anyone give me some tips on traing him to work with the lamp?

if hes taking a good few on the day, it wont take any training. test his fist response at night first tho before you go out, and use telemtry lol

Just to repeat what Sean said, use telemetry. I just got back from my 4th outing lamping, still struggling to catch anything. He's been hitting the rabbits but not holding until tonight, after a flight of about 100m he hit a rabbit hard they both spun up 4 feet into the air, he then went for the rodeo ride of his life. By the time I got there they'd both disapeared, so out with the telemetry, it was pitch black, I'm a mile from the nearest road and my truck, thank feck I got a signal. After 5 minutes of searching with the telemetry and lamp I spot the tips of his wings a foot down a rabbit hole.

I tried to ease him out but he wasn't letting go, so I started to dig a hole next to him with my bare hands, when I got down level I broke though and managed to ease his wings free and could now see his head, he still wasn't letting go so I loaded the lure dropped it next to the hole a few times and out he came and took it.

So thank f**k for telemetry.

did you get the rabbit mate lol? abotu 50% of the rabbits i get at night end up with him anchoring on a hole, just put your bare hand in and pull the rabbits leg out, make sure its the rabbits tho, or will will have one pissed hawk lol

Didn't get the rabbit he was to deep and the bird was to tight in the hole. Would have been his first on the lamp.
