doris 6
I have seen a couple of whippets working and I am impressed with them as a ferreting, bushing, snatch type dog. But I have also seen em on quick short terrain and they just dont seem quick enough, along side a half cros or 3/4 cross grey. Ok they can turn but just dont have the top end. Does any one else have this opininon, or is it just me? Quote Link to post
stainlee 27
Maybe not as fast as a half or three quarter bred greyhound, but definatly quick enough. Quote Link to post

Does any one else have this opininon, or is it just me? My ferreting partner Magwitch has a 3/4 whippet [sooty Sam] x 1/4 Beddie, named Ted ,his reactions ,and early pace are phenomenal I run him with my fastest dog Smokey , he leaves him for dead over the first 60 yds, check out some of his posts for pics. Whippets are underrated for stamina too, I remember having a long, and interesting conversation with the late Ted Walsh about Laguna and Nimrodel lines of whippets re coursing. For a ferreting bushing dog I would go for a 3/4 whippet 1/4 beddie, to add coat and a bit of nose ,but for bunny bashing ,Whippets take some beating ,they do suffer from the cold , and hard ground can find them out, a full night's lamping is probably a bit hard on most of them ,but as a bushing companion ,they are fine imo. mighty celt 996
my mate has a first cross whippet/grey and when out bushing if a rabbit bolts and the 2 of them are there they would be neck and neck the whole way.so yes they are quick enough.if u keep them fit and feed up right they are very capeble dogs mate. poacher3161 1,766
IMHO whippets are plenty fast enough its just that some only being 18tts a similar type dog at 22tts will appear that bit faster due to the longer stride.atb dell Quote Link to post
